Video: 2,200 migrants cross the Del Rio sector in ONE DAY as Rep. says Guatemala has offered to help

Video from the border shows at least 700 migrants crossing into the U.S. from Mexico in the span of one day at just one border crossing in Eagle Pass, Texas.

It comes as Representative Tony Gonzales, a Republican from Texas, revealed that Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei offered to provide assistance to President Joe Biden at the southern border crisis if he were to ask for help.

Fox News’ Bill Melugin posted a series of videos to Twitter on Sunday showing mass amounts of migrants crossing illegally and being apprehended by authorities at Texas’ southern border.

In one tweet, he notes that he witnessed more than 500 migrants cross into Eagle Pass, including one group that totaled 290 people. Another tweet showed images of two additional groups totaling 200 more migrants.

Eagle Pass is a popular crossing spot. This area alone has seen approximately 400,000 illegal crossings since October.

Melugin noted that the entire Del Rio sector saw 2,200 illegal crossings in the span of just 24 hours.

Congressman Gonzalez told President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Guy Benson on Fox News Radio last week that they need to ask President Giammattei for help.

‘I specifically asked the president of Guatemala, ‘Hey, what would it take in order for you to take more of these repatriation flights?” Gonzales said of a conversation he had with the Guatemalan leader.

‘These are people that do not qualify for asylum, you send them back to their country of origin. What would it take for you to take more of those flights? His answer was: ‘One simple thing, Tony. I just need the president of the United States to call me. He won’t even call me.’

Giammattei Told Fox back in December that since Harris’ visit to Guatemala last June, he has not had any contact with the White House.

Harris was appointed ‘border czar’ by President Biden upon taking office, tasking her with helping end the southern border crisis, which is still seeing a record-breaking number of crossings each month as well as inhumane conditions at border facilities and a few tragic fatal incidents.

While illegal crossings took a dip in June for the first time in five months, it appears the trend is back on the upswing.

No figures have been released yet for July on the amount of migrants encountered by Customs and Border Protection (CBP), but the agency apprehended 207,416 the month prior.

The June figure was a steep decline from the record-breaking high of 240,991 crossings in May.

There have been more than 200,000 migrant encounters at the border every month since March.

While many migrants are returned under Title 42 public health protections, thousands are released into the U.S. in places like Arizona and Texas. Both states have started busing migrants to Washington, D.C. and New York City to help quell the crisis in border communities.

Harris’ office has insisted that her goal is not to address the migrant crisis at the border. Rather, they claim, her mission is to look into the root causes in Northern Triangle nations that lead to a mass amount of migrants heading north.

The White House told Fox in a statement that the Biden administration has a ‘strong cooperation with Guatemala’ when it comes to repatriation of migrants.

‘In fact, President Biden in June brought 20 world leaders together for the first time ever to take collective responsibility to manage migration flows across the Western Hemisphere, including through repatriations,’ the official noted.
