Vincent Kompany warned Manchester City plan to continue blitzing their rivals as they moved to within two wins of the Premier League title.

David Silva’s double downed Stoke City and the title could now be wrapped up with victory against Manchester United on April 7.

‘Everybody in the blue side of Manchester knows it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity (to win the title against United) but steady, it won’t be handed to us,’ Kompany said.

‘Every win brings you closer to your goal but we want to keep this standard until the end of the season and into the next season too.’

Silva is enjoying his best season since joining City in 2010 and has continued producing stellar performances despite family concerns.

His son Mateo was born prematurely before Christmas and Silva has been afforded time off to visit his family in Valencia.

‘When I play football I forget about everything else, it is good for me to play,’ Silva said. ‘My private life is very hard for me but my son is fighting and getting better.’

Pep Guardiola lavished praise on the Spaniard, adding: ‘Normally a player of this quality you think isn’t a fighter. David is a good example that you have to play both sides of the game.’

City headed straight for Manchester airport on Monday night to jet off on a five-day warm-weather break in Abu Dhabi.

The squad will sit together to watch Friday’s Champions League quarter-final draw and that is what Guardiola is now focused on.

‘Before and after United we have the quarter-final and that’s the most important thing to focus on. For the fans United is important but the most important thing is to be champions.

‘We must carry on to reach our next goals, with the Champions League to come. There’s always room for improvement and that’s what we’ll do.

‘We’re going to be together this week. Three training sessions, play golf, be together. We’ll train the same that we do here. The weather in Manchester is supposed to be rain.’

Stoke manager Paul Lambert said: ‘They’re a top side. Their movement, speed on the ball and they make the pitch really big.

‘Sometimes you have to hold your hand up and understand why they’re going to win the title. You have to look for the positives: we never capitulated.’
