Virgin Active opens its new Kensington club

Half of Londoners see paying for the gym as ‘an investment’ in their overall health and 43 per cent see membership as essential to their overall wellbeing, a new study has found.

Research from the gym giants Virgin Active found that weekdays are the most popular for a workout rather than at weekends – and that gym bunnies in the capital are more experimental with their workouts than than any other part of the country.

Around a third of Londoners have given up on fitness goals before reaching them – then waited eight months before starting to hit their targets again

Despite a broad range of class options and boutique fitness destinations, almost 40 per cent of Londoners stick to the same workout every week.

And boxing, they found, is now the most popular gym-based activity, even more so than spinning.

The gym specialists conducted the fitness survey to coincide with the relaunch of the Virgin Active flagship gym in Kensington, west London.

The Collection Club includes seven state of the art new studios including a purpose built boxing studio with seven brand new group exercise classes being brought under one roof including; Dynamic Reformer, Hot Yoga, Revolution and Barre.

Providing a boutique and studio-rich environment, Virgin Active Kensington is set across four floors and boasts a large functional training floor, indoor pool and seven brand new bespoke studios for Combat, Performance, Cycle and Mind and Body.

A 1-2-1 Mind and Body studio has also been added, catering for small groups or private training sessions, as well as London’s largest Dynamic Reformer studio with 21 beds.

For the cycle enthusiasts, there is an exciting new calorie burner ‘Revolution’ class. With music at its core and a DJ curated playlist, it combines a tempo-based cycling workout with free weights for a full body workout.

Robert Cook, Managing Director at Virgin Active UK, says: ‘At Virgin Active, we believe it is our responsibility to make exercise irresistible. It’s why we’ve been continually innovating ever since we opened our doors – with state of the art equipment, red-hot trainers and industry leading facilities, turning the ordinary gym into a true lifestyle experience for members of all ages.

Members will not only have unlimited access to the latest classes and facilities but an inclusive leisure environment and extraordinary lifestyle experience where they can feel healthier, in both body and in mind.

In addition to a range of yoga offerings, the Kensington Collection Club will be the fourth Virgin Active to feature Beyond Movement, alongside Barbican, Fulham and the Strand, with a suite of dedicated treatment rooms offering a range of services from Physiotherapy and Acupuncture to Sports Massage and 1:1 Reformer Pilates, helping members to restore and rebalance their bodies.

Virgin Active Kensington has been designed to create a personal, welcoming and encouraging club environment where members can spend time both on and off the gym floor. Whether working out in a group class, relaxing and refuelling in the lounge, resting and energising in the sauna and steam rooms, living the VIP life through shirt pressing and shoe shining or keeping little ones entertained in the brand-new Club V facilities, the club offers members the support and environment to find their own red-hot paths to 360-degree wellness.
