Virgin Australia: 1 Point Reward Store opens in Melbourne with luxury items for one Velocity point

Shoppers set to nab Dyson hairdryers, Apple AirPods, flights and Smeg gadgets for ‘next to nothing’ at Australia’s ‘cheapest store’ – and there’s no catch

  • Virgin opening its first-ever 1 Point Reward store
  • Opens on Saturday June 10th for 24 hours
  • Shoppers can buy luxe items for one Velocity point

Shoppers are gearing up for the opening of what could be Australia’s cheapest ever store selling Dyson hair dryers, domestic flights, Apple AirPods and more for next to nothing.

Virgin Velocity members can nab the bargain of a lifetime as the airline opens its first-ever 1 Point Reward store for one day only on Saturday June 10 on Melbourne’s bustling Chapel Street.

Customers can redeem a single Velocity Reward Point in exchange for a range of items from brands including Smeg, Apple, Weber and Adidas.

The store will open for 24 hours or until stocks last so shoppers better be quick if they score a deal.

On offer for a Velocity point will be a Dyson hair dryer valued at $649 or the cord-free vacuum cleaner which normally costs $719.

Also among the deals is a Smeg 50s-style toaster, an Apple Watch or AirPods, Weber Baby Q, Breville barista coffee machine, GHD hair straightener or a Bose Soundlink bluetooth speaker.

One point can get members a one-way economy flight to the Gold Coast, Cairns, Brisbane, Hobart, Launceston, Sydney and Adelaide.

The store is opening in celebration of the Velocity 1 points Rewards Initiative which will launch on Sunday, June 11.

New 1 Point rewards will drop every week and will allow members to shop international flights, gadgets and more for only one point each.

While the initiative seems too good to be true, Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO, Nick Rohrlach assures bargain hunters there is no catch.

‘I expect Saturday to be a scene from the Black Friday sales, with hordes of shoppers trying to nab a Dyson hair dryer or Apple Watch for just 1 Velocity Point. It really is something to be seen to be believed,’ he laughed.

‘Most people I’ve spoken to have said the initiative is too good to be true, but I assure you we are serious about fast rewards, and this initiative is a testament to that.’

Nick said Melbourne was the perfect place to launch the initiative with ‘millions of Velocity members based in Victoria’.

‘We are expecting the rewards to be snapped up quickly, so we encourage members to arrive early for the best chance to be rewarded. Christmas is certainly coming early for Melburnians,’ he said.

‘We know it’s hard to believe that a member can go on a holiday for just 1 Velocity Point or purchase a Dyson hairdryer for the equivalent of a $2 purchase at Coles, but this is the beauty of our 1 Point Rewards initiative and it’s fantastic to be able to launch it in Melbourne.’
