Volleyball coach’s Facebook post day before sex charges

A volleyball coach accused of grooming a 15-year-old boy for sex made a final bizarre religious Facebook post before his arrest, saying he had watched people cast out evil and free of sin.

Brad Wall, 24, a sports coach at the exclusive Barker College, met the teenager at an interstate volleyball event and began engaging with him on social media, police say.

He was arrested at Manly Golf Course – where he also works, according to his Facebook page – on Thursday afternoon following a referral from Victoria Police.

‘Today it’s the 23rd and I’m turning 23! That’s something most people only get to do once in their life. For Me, another 22 years and I’ll be saying the same thing! …today is also my 1st birthday!’ Wall wrote.

‘This time last year I got baptised and born again into the life God planned and purposed for me. It’s been an epic year where life now takes me to continually see people set free from Sin, hungry people fed, poor people blessed, illnesses leave, impairments repaired, evil cast out, and witnessing Holy Spirit come into someone’s heart as they accept a relationship with Jesus for the first time.’

Wall is a prominent figure in junior volleyball circles and was named as one of the coaches of the NSW under-15 side.

Wall, who allegedly made sexually-explicit comments to the boy, has been charged with use carriage service to transmit indecent communication to a person under 16 and use carriage service for child pornography material (solicit).

‘I will continue to pursue Jesus, and love not my own life until I die. It’s a decision I make daily as God constantly has work to do in me,’ his final Facebook post reads.

‘However it’s Christ in me, the same Spirit that rose him from the dead, in me, that is the hope of Glory… and nothing will ever be able to separate me from that love.’

Wall has been described by classmates as a ‘nice guy who always looked out for everyone’ and was ‘loved’ by teachers.

‘He was an interesting guy, very funny, loved his Drama and Volleyball and he loved the school so damn much,’ an anonymous former student and classmate told Daily Mail Australia.

‘I do genuinely feel bad about what happening to him because he is a really good guy – but what he was (allegedly) doing is pretty disgusting.’

The anonymous student says Wall struggled with his sexual orientation during school and his religious devotion came after he left.

Barker Headmaster Phillip Heath told Daily Mail Australia he was ‘shocked, disturbed and deeply saddened’ by the allegations.

‘We have suspended his casual contract pending the outcome of the investigation,’ Mr Heath said.

‘We hastily add that he is entitled to due process. These are allegations but they are charges.

‘I have a duty of care to students and to manage risk. In light of that we have suspended the contract.’

Mr Heath, who stressed that no Barker students were believed to be involved, said parents were informed of the allegations on Friday morning.

Wall, a former student at the college, has been employed at Barker since 2013.

He works primarily as a volleyball coach, but was also involved in drama and student leadership programs.
