Von Miller admits he accidentally tried to warm up with his ex-Rams teammates before his Bills debut

Von Miller admits he accidentally tried to warm up with the Rams and his old teammates before making his debut with the Bills, as he opens up on playing against his ‘brothers’ and insists LA will always have a ‘special place in his heart’

  • Von Miller recorded two sacks in his first game with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday
  • Buffalo beat the Rams, who Miller won his second Super Bowl with last season
  • In March,  the 33-year-old Miller signed a six-year, $120 million deal with the Bills
  • He told NBC afterwards that he had to fight the urge to warm up with the Rams

Seven months and $120 million can only change a man so much.

Take Von Miller, the pass-rushing specialist who made his debut for the Buffalo Bills in Thursday’s NFL season opener against the Rams after helping Los Angeles win a Super Bowl last February.

Despite his new six-year deal, that includes $51 million guaranteed, the 33-year-old Miller still found himself fighting the urge to warm up alongside his former Rams teammates on Thursday.

‘I came out here I was warming up on the wrong side,’ Miller told NBC after Thursday’s 31-10 win over LA. ‘I was warming up on the Rams side, something I’m used to, then I had to remember I’m over here.’

Miller stressed that he has no hard feelings towards his former teammates, although that didn’t stop him from sacking LA quarterback Matthew Stafford twice on Thursday.

‘I love all those guys,’ he said. ‘It felt like I was playing a game against my brothers and we had fun today.

‘I still miss those guys, Miller continued. ‘What we did is something special, you can never take that away. I’m happy to be a Bill and I’m happy to be in Buffalo, but LA will always hold a special place in my heart. Super bowl LVI will always hold a special place in my heart, and my teammates will always hold a special place in my heart. And I’m grateful for my time in LA.’

Miller went on to compliment his new Bills teammates, who limited LA to 10 points and just 2.9 yards a carry while intercepting Stafford three times on Thursday.

‘A lot of plays on the defense,’ Miller said. ‘Everybody set us up to rush well. Secondary, [safeties] Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer those guys played incredible to give us time up front to make plays.’

Stafford was ultimately sacked seven times on Thursday – the most since joining the Rams last season.
