Voters call Trump sexist, thin-skinned, unstable in poll

A majority of American voters assigned a number of negative qualities to President Trump in a new Morning Consult/Politico poll.

More than 50 per cent of survey respondents called Trump sexist and thin-skinned, while a similar percentage said he wasn’t stable, nor trustworthy and hadn’t delivered on his campaign promises.

A slightly smaller percentage, 45 percent, deemed Trump racist.

A majority of registered voters answered yes when asked if Trump is sexist, reckless and thin-skinned, while a similar percentage answered no when asked if he was stable, compassionate and 'cares about people like me'

The new survey was conducted from October 19 to 23, amid the president’s spat with Gold Star widow Myeshia Johnson and Democratic Rep. Fredericka Wilson.

However voters’ perceptions mirror many of the complaints made by the two retiring GOP senators – Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker  – who have been critical of Trump in recent days.

On the Senate floor Tuesday, Flake labeled Trump ‘reckless, outrageous and undignified.’

In the survey, 56 per cent of respondents called Trump reckless too.

Another 31 per cent answered no when asked if they thought Trump was reckless.

The survey also found that 52 per cent of registered voters believed Trump to be thin-skinned.

Another 33 per cent disagreed.

Fifty per cent called the president sexist, with another 35 per cent saying he wasn’t.

A majority of Americans answered no when asked if they thought the president was stable, with 54 per cent answering in the negative, and another 33 per cent saying he was.

Thirty-four percent said Trump keeps his promises, with 50 percent saying he doesn’t.

And on that same note, 33 called Trump trustworthy, with 53 percent saying he wasn’t.

When asked if Trump ‘cares about people like me,’ 53 per cent answered no, while 34 per cent said yes.

Along the same lines, 33 per cent called Trump compassionate, with 54 per cent saying he wasn’t.

Thirty-nine percent of respondents called Trump a strong leader, with another 50 percent saying that wasn’t the case.

The voters were also asked to choose whether Trump’s administration was running well or chaotically.

A bulk of respondents, 39 percent, said his administration was running ‘very chaotically.’

Another 17 percent said it was running somewhat chaotically.

While 14 percent said it was running very well and 22 percent said it was going somewhat well.

Like most surveys surrounding Trump, Republicans were still less likely to describe the president in a negative light.

For example, on the reckless question, while 79 per cent of Democrats answered yes, just 31 per cent of Republicans thought that to be the case.

However, Morning Consult’s co-founder and Chief Research Office Kyle Dropp pointed out to Politico that the 33 percent is ‘notably higher than the percentage of Republicans that disapprove of the president overall.’

That number stands at 20 per cent.

The survey was of 1,988 registered voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2 per cent.
