  • The ALP have come together to kick the Home Affairs Minister from the QLD seat
  • Polling suggests Liberal MP is on track to keep his seat by a narrow 1.6 per cent

Voters have described Malcolm Turnbull’s political rival Peter Dutton as ‘out of touch’ and ‘arrogant’ in a new political poll lead by the opposition.

The Australian Labor Party have come together to kick Dutton from his seat of Dickson in Queensland.

The internal Labor focus group research coined the political contender as ‘scary’ and ‘creepy’.

The Minister for Home Affairs was also referred to as ‘arrogant’ and ‘out of touch’ by Australian voters.

The poll grasps a perspective nationally and not just in the electorate of Dickson.

Dutton dismissed the poll as ‘typical Labor and GetUp propaganda’ last night.

‘Labor lied their way through the last election campaign, why would you expect any different now,’ Mr Dutton said.

He said: ‘GetUp should explain why it takes a million dollars from the CFMMEU (Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union),’ the Courier Mail reported.

It comes amid claims Mr Dutton is set to launch a leadership campaign with the aim of toppling Mr Turnbull and making him prime minister.

Polling suggests the Liberal MP is on track to keep his seat, despite holding it by a narrow 1.6 per cent margin.

But Opposition Leader Bill Shorten and incoming ALP national president Wayne Swan have bitten back at Dutton claiming ‘You can’t be Prime Minister if you’re not a Member of Parliament.’

Mr Swan continued: ‘Any suggestion that this bloke has some sort of connection with Queensland is a sick joke.

‘He has barely set foot in regional Queensland since the last election.’

Labor will focus primarily on health for their campaign to secure the Queensland seat.
