Voters like Boris Johnson… they just don’t trust him! Pollsters reveal snap judgement on host of key issues between PM and Jeremy Corbyn after ITV debate

  • YouGov polled 1,000 voters immediately after last night’s election debate 
  • Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn faced-off on ITV in Salford, Manchester 
  • The hour-long debate saw both men questioned by ITV’s Julie Etchingham 
  • Voters said Boris Johnson ‘won’ the debate by 51 per cent to 49 per cent  

Voter like Boris Johnson more than his Labour challenger but find Jeremy Corbyn more trustworthy according to a snap poll following last night’s general election leadership debate. 

Mr Johnson and Mr Corbyn faced-off last night in Salford on ITV. According to YouGov, some 51 per cent of 1,000 people surveyed thought the Prime Minister ‘won’ the debate.  

However, YouGov said the 51-49 split was within the margin of error. The polling organisation removed those who could not decide from the result.

When asked which of the candidates was most trustworthy, 40 per cent said it was the PM, while 45 per cent claimed it was the Labour leader. Some 15 per cent said they did not know. 

However, Mr Johnson was the most likeable candidate, with 54 per cent choosing the PM over the 37 per cent who opted for Mr Corbyn. One in ten voters said they didn’t know. 

Mr Corbyn was ‘more in touch’ with ordinary people with 59 per cent, compared with 25 per cent who opted for the PM. 

Some 63 per cent thought Mr Johnson performed better compared with 27 per cent with Jeremy Corbyn.
