Wagatha Christie trial: Coleen Rooney wears Zara

Coleen Rooney has once again favoured high-street over designer as she arrived at London’s High Court wearing a £69.99 blazer from Zara.

The wife of Wayne Rooney put on a casual display in a straight-fit blazer and matching trousers, paired with a simple t-shirt, ahead of the fourth day of the ‘Wagatha Christie’ case.

It’s the second time Coleen, 36, has donned the Spanish-brand, sporting a £32.99 printed dress on the second day of the trial – but couldn’t resist adding a touch of designer with Chanel accessories on both occasions.

Meanwhile Rebekah Vardy, 40, arrived in a chic monochrome suit which she paired with a white blouse £1,760 Alexandre Vauthier tuxedo jacket and £1,690 Givenchy handbag.

As the high-profile WAGs battle it out in their £3million libel case, the pair are also hoping to win in the style stakes – with Coleen apparently favouring more low-key brands than Rebekah.

Coleen has been in a bitter feud with Rebekah since October 2019 after accusing her of leaking ‘false stories’ about her private life to the media, before claiming that she uncovered the culprit after carrying out a social media ‘sting operation’.

Worlds away from their usual uniforms of cocktail dresses, voluminous locks and glamorous make-up looks, the WAGS both opted for a suitably toned-down smart business style today.

Arriving for the fourth day of proceedings, Coleen donned a single-button blazer made from eco-friendly fabric teamed with a pair of £32.99 cropped trousers with an elasticated waist.

While she opted for a high-street outfit, the WAG couldn’t resist taking part in the battle of the bags with a classic Chanel flap bag in white, costing around £4,480.

The mother-of-four, who was wearing a medical boot on her left leg following an injury, stepped out in a pair of white statement Gucci leather loafers decorated with stars and bees worth £620.

Coleen opted to style her brown tresses in a sleek low bun and wore a pair of small gold hoop earrings – swapping her usual glam make-up look for a more pared back style.

Meanwhile Rebekah, the wife of Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, opted for a simple black blazer and matching trousers, paired with a white blouse to create a classic monochrome look.

Rebekah, who has five children as well as a step-daughter from husband Jamie’s previous relationship, accessorised her look with her glossy black leather handbag and two beaded bracelets.

She opted to have her brown locks styled into a French plait and sported a heavier make-up look with a layer of foundation, bronzer and blush, a lick of mascara, as well as a delicate brown smokey eye.

It’s the second time Coleen has opted for a non-designer retailer, with celebrity stylist Miranda Holder suggesting choosing an inexpensive Zara number could be a bid to portray herself as a ‘woman of the people’.

Speaking of Coleen’s £32.99 Zara dress, Miranda told FEMAIL: ‘Coleen picked a feminine and floaty dress, positioning her once again as defenceless and innocent.

‘Choosing an inexpensive Zara number rather than designer demonstrates Coleen wants to be a ‘woman of the people’ – just don’t pay attention to the single Chanel shoe’.

The case centres around a 2019 social media post by Coleen in which she said she had planted fake stories on her private Instagram account and accused Rebekah of leaking them to The Sun newspaper.

Rebekah denied the claim, and launched a libel case when Coleen refused to take down the post.

Yesterday Rebekah asked the High Court ‘who’s Davy Jones?’ following a nautical reference by Coleen barrister as the rollercoaster libel trial continued for a third day.

The High Court burst into laughter after the exchange – which concerned the claim that Rebekah’s agent, Caroline Watt, lost her phone containing WhatsApp messages when it fell off a boat into the North Sea.

Coleen’s barrister, David Sherborne, has accused Rebekah of deleting key evidence that, it is said, would prove that Rebekah had been leaking stories to the media.

‘We know that Ms Watt’s phone is now in Davy Jones’ Locker, don’t we, Mrs Vardy?’ Mr Sherborne said.

Rebekah then replied: ‘I’m sorry, I don’t know who Davy Jones is’.

The judge then had to describe the idiom, which refers to the legendary resting place of sailors who have drowned at sea.
