Waleed Aly’s joke about The Black Eyed Peas falls very flat

The Black Eyed Peas have jetted into Australia to perform at the AFL Grand Final on Saturday.

But Waleed Aly appears unconvinced that the pop trio know much about the football game that they’ll be singing at.

The American band appeared on The Project on Friday night, where Waleed attempted to take a humourous jab at their alleged lack of knowledge.

‘You’ve clearly done no research at all!’ On Friday night’s episode of The Project, Waleed Aly’s joke about The Black Eyed Peas’ appeared to fall flat with the band

After introducing The Black Eyed Peas to viewers, Waleed addressed them by saying bluntly: ‘Look, let’s be honest, I saw your press conference the yesterday at the MCG, in the lead-up to the Grand Final, and I noticed that every time anyone asked you a question about the teams or about football you immediately changed the subjects back to yourselves.’

The trio appeared confused about whether or not the host was joking, however light laughter from the studio audience suggested that he was.

He continued: ‘You’ve clearly done no research at all! Now, you’ve had a day, can you at least formulate an answer about who’s going to win?’

Black Eyed Peas star Taboo showed his quick wit by jokingly turning the conversation back to the band

‘So The Black Eyed Peas’ new album Masters of The Sun will be released…’ he quipped, before the audience burst into loud laughter.

Elsewhere, co-host Gorgi Coghlan commented on the band’s black and white outfits, saying: ‘This theme is very Collingwood’.

'Very Collingwood vibe, does that actually make any sense to you?' Waleed asked whether or not the Black Eyed Peas knew about the Collingwood Magpies

Waleed chimed in: ‘Very Collingwood vibe, does that actually make any sense to you?’

However, it appeared the band had a more impressive understanding of the AFL than the presenter first thought.

Taboo shot back: ‘Yeah, the black and white team (the Collingwood Magpies, who wear black and white). See, we’ve been doing a little research!’

Don’t write them off yet! It appeared the band had a more impressive understanding of the AFL than Waleed first thought
