Walkerville, Bundaberg: Man charged after grabbing girl, 15, by neck and threatening her with knife

Chilling rampage in a quiet country town sees a knife-wielding man, 29, attempt to kidnap a girl, 15, before her brave mate foils the attack – before he tried again at 3am on a woman, 42

A man has been charged after going on a violent rampage through a country town, first grabbing a teenage girl by the throat before threatening another woman with a knife inside her car. 

The man approached the 15-year-old girl and her 15-year-old male companion on Maryborough Street in Walkervale, in Queensland’s Bundaberg region, during the early hours of Saturday morning. 

Police say at about 12:55am the pair had a brief conversation with the man before walking and then running in the opposite direction. 

The teenage girl tried to hide from the knife-wielding stranger in a nearby bush but was quickly found by the man who grabbed her by the throat.

He threatened the 15-year-old with his knife before forcing her to walk down a nearby street where he was luckily met with her brave companion. 

The man released the girl but gave chase to the 15-year-old boy before both teenagers were able to get the attention of a passing ambulance. 

Just 10 minutes before the terrifying altercation the same man had run at a passing car on nearby Walker street. 

The male driver came to a stop but quickly fled the scene after noticing the man was holding a knife. 

Hours later at about 3:55am, a 42-year-old woman was forced to run from the same man when he approached the back of her open van. 

After he threatened her with a knife the woman jumped into the drivers seat and tried to escape the man, who got into the passenger seat.

She quickly got out of the van and fled the scene on foot while phoning police. 

Officers were able to locate the man on Walker Street.

He has also been charged with one count each of assault, kidnapping and unlawful entry of a vehicle. 

The man is due to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Monday.
