Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin looks worlds away from role

She is best known for her role as Sasha Williams on The Walking Dead.

Yet Sonequa Martin has swapped her zombie fighting garb for a wholly more glamorous vibe as she has began blazing the promo trail to promote her new role as Commander Michael Burnham in new series Star Trek: Discovery.

The 32-year-old actress looked nothing short of sensational as she appeared on The One Show on Friday evening, where she sported a shimmering mini dress which thigh-high boots while upping the glam factor to full.

Sonequa was barely-recognisable from her embattled TV persona as she arrived at the London studios in a stunning, metallic brocade dress.

The coat-dress was cinched in at her waist with a huge belt which was given further dazzle with the addition of a sparkling diamante band around the centre.

She upped the sex appeal of the look by adding in black suede boots with a pointed toe and staggering heel to boost her endless legs even further.

Her hair was styled into tumbling lengths while she kept her make-up dewy and stunning to add to her preened and polished look.

Sonequa has been joining her Star Trek co-stars, including Michelle Yeoh and Jason Isaacs, in blazing the promotional trail for the new show – and she recently discussed her departure from The Walking Dead.

Insistent her intergalactic role did not impact on her zombie fighting, she told Entertainment Weekly: ‘It couldn’t have worked out more perfectly, because what was happening on Walking Dead was already underway. It was the path.

‘It was definitely in place. And then as we were going into the very end of the season, the very end of our shoot for the season, that’s when the opportunity for Star Trek came.

‘And so I know some people might think that I left Walking Dead to do Star Trek, but it did not happen that way. It was after Walking Dead was already ending that the opportunity for Star Trek came.’

Sonequa recently discussed how Star Trek has shown diverse characters through it’s history in the October issue of American Way magazine for American Airlines. She said: ‘Star Trek has always showcased diversity, It’s always been about acceptance.’

While she was too young to remember TV’s first interracial kiss between William Shatner’s character Captain Kirk and Nichelle Nichols’ portrayal of Lieutenant Uhura in 1968, Sonequa is aware of the adversity on screen then and now.

‘Everyone certainly has the right to speak, but does everyone have the right to speak hate?’ Martin-Green asked. ‘If a human is feeling hate, they’re still a beautiful human who has been perverted and broken, disillusioned and deceived.
