Washington Redskins receiver Cody Latimer is arrested for ‘assaulting a person and firing gunshots in a Colorado apartment’

  • The football player was charged with felony assault in the second degree, menacing and illegal discharge of a firearm and other charges
  • Latimer has posted a $25,000 bond, according to the department.

Washington Redskins wide receiver Cody Latimer was arrested on Saturday morning after shots were fired inside a Colorado apartment.

Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department were called to the apartment shortly after midnight and apprehended the professional athlete. 

The sheriff department’s report states that a witness heard arguing and what sounded like gunshots in the apartment, ESPN reports.

The 27-year-old Ohio native signed with the Redskins during the offseason. Latimer had spent the last two seasons with the New York Giants

One person has been reported as having a minor injury but it is said to be unrelated to the gunshot.

He has had some issues with the law in the past, having been arrested in 2014 for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend

The football player was charged with felony assault in the second degree, menacing and illegal discharge of a firearm and misdemeanor charges of prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment.  

Latimer has posted a $25,000 bond, according to the department. 

‘We are aware of the situation and have informed the NFL League Office,’ the Redskins said in a statement. ‘We will continue to gather more information and have no further comment at this time.’

The 27-year-old Ohio native signed with the Redskins during the offseason. Latimer had spent the last two seasons with the New York Giants, already having four years under his belt with the Denver Broncos.

Latimer was drafted by the Broncos in the second round in 2014. He has 70 receptions, 935 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his career so far. 

The wide receiver has had some issues with the law in the past, having been arrested in 2014 for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, TMZ reports.
