Watch as woman flies 9000 miles to surprise her boyfriend at his graduation

A woman gave her boyfriend the surprise of a lifetime after flying 9000 miles to see him on his graduation day.

Ella Grace Beutner, 23, from Brisbane, Australia, shocked her partner when she turned up unexpectedly at the ceremony in Ohio.

The paralegal and law student undertook months of planning to pull off the surprise for Jacob, 25, who graduated from the University of Dayton in Ohio.

The adorable act was caught on camera, with Jacob visibly elated as the pair created a memory they will cherish forever.

‘Just to see the sheer shock followed by such happiness and then so many tears from him, something I never expected, was so beautiful to witness.

‘All the effort, planning, and coordination had led to this incredible display of emotion.

‘Knowing that I had succeeded in creating such a meaningful surprise for him, one that would be etched in our memories forever, filled me with a profound sense of joy and fulfilment.

‘It was a reminder of how lucky I am to have Jacob in my life’.

Ella went to incredible lengths pull off the surprise and even roped in family members.

She recalls the moment her parents travelled on a road trip to LA with a ‘decoy’ phone so she would have ‘poor reception’ when Jacob attempted to text or call.

She explains: ‘It all began with a conversation between Jacob’s mum and myself back in December 2022, the day after Jacob left to go back to the U.S after visiting Australia for Christmas.

‘As usual, after returning to long distance, we were devastated to be apart, so I got to planning the surprise, which gave me something to plan and look forward to.

‘Next came the challenge of maintaining secrecy. I confided in both our families, relying on their trust and support to keep the surprise under wraps.

‘Countless phone calls, video chats, and covert conversations took place, ensuring that Jacob wouldn’t catch wind of my plans.

‘Jacob and I share our locations with each other, so I coordinated with my dad to re-route my location to a decoy phone just in case Jacob checked my location, it would look like I was still in Australia.

Their covert operation proved a success as Jacob remained completely clueless about the plan that lay ahead.

Ella added:  ‘Jacob’s parents picked me up from the airport and organised accommodation for me.

‘The day before graduation, Jacob’s sister, Katie, and I took on the task of scoping out the stadium.

‘We carefully studied its layout, pinpointing the ideal spot where the surprise would unfold.

‘Although wet weather threw our plans out the window in the morning, we quickly came up with a backup on the day.

Her intricate plan came together smoothly, with Ella popping out at the perfect moment.

She said: Jacob’s family gathered around pretending to take photos of Jacob and I surprised him – it went perfectly.

‘Everyone did such a good job at not saying anything and keeping it under wraps.

‘The hardest part was definitely trying not to slip up and accidentally say something to Jacob’.
