Watermelon ice cream sandwich lands in Melbourne

A new refreshing treat has hit Melbourne, and it’s sure to be one in a million – or should we say, watermelon?

The watermelon ice cream sandwich has touched down in the foodie capital, and it’s the perfect treat to keep Australians cool for the summer.

Milkcow’s limited edition creation is presented in a real slice of the juicy fruit, hollowed out and filled to the brim with watermelon-flavoured soft serve.

Even the seeds, which are actually milk chocolate chips, are edible. The whole thing is topped with just a dash of pink Himalayan rock salt.

And the sandwich is truly something for everyone, thanks to the fact that the soft serve is both vegan and dairy-free.

The original watermelon ice cream sandwich was designed by renowned pastry chef Dominique Ansel, who made it for the South Korean ice cream chain’s Tokyo store.

Ansel, who was named the World’s Best Pastry Chef this year, is a master of creating desserts that can whip the internet into a frenzy.

Milkcow has become the fastest growing ice cream chain in Asia, renowned for its creamy organic soft serve ice cream.

The chain has become famous for its creative toppings, constantly upping the ice cream experience with the likes of fairy floss and double-glazed caramel corn.

And if Instagram is any indication, the watermelon ice cream sandwich has become yet another viral hit for both Milkcow and Ansel.
