Wayne Rooney has reportedly made a 170-mile drive from the Midlands to Southampton to have a romantic date with his wife Coleen.

The England star, 33, is said to have left his new club of Derby to enjoy some quality time with his other half, also 33, before he headed back to the US.

According to The Sun, Coleen was in Hampshire to take the couple’s son Klay, six, to Peppa Pig World with Wayne joining her at the Hilton at The Ageas Bowl.

A source told the publication: ‘Wayne was back in the UK to announce the move to Derby so rearranged his travel plans to squeeze in a trip to see Coleen too.

‘He was only there for around 12 hours — including a night’s sleep — but Coleen was obviously delighted.

‘They had a cosy night in, ordered room service and caught up properly before he went back to the States.’

MailOnline has contacted a representative for Wayne for further comment.

It comes after Coleen was reported to have ‘seized control’ of her husband Wayne’s return to England where she hopes to try for a fifth child.

According to The Sun, the mother-of-four sees the move home as a chance to rebuild their life with a longterm future planned in their £20million Cheshire home.

Coleen, 33, is said to be hoping for a fresh start in England following numerous scandals the Derby bound striker, 33, has been involved in including cheating, boozing and legal problems.

Coleen reportedly shared concern that husband Wayne could fall back into old habits thanks to his £1 million deal with betting giant 32Red.

A source said that the WAG is worried the sporting star will be tempted back to gambling thanks to his big-money deal with the brand, who will pay part of his £100,000 a week wages when he moves to Derby County as a player-coach in January.

Wayne reportedly blew a staggering £500,000 in just two hours during a massive gambling spree in 2017.

A source said: ‘While Coleen was on cloud nine about the move back to the UK, this has cast a shadow.

‘She and Wayne’s family are concerned about what the deal with this company entails and whether he will be tempted back into the gambling lifestyle, which he used to love in England before.’

Wayne’s deal with 32Red has already sparked backlash from fans of the star, who accused him of ‘selling his soul.’

The former England captain will wear the number 32 shirt when he joins Derby County from DC United, and will work with the brand on ‘community initiatives.’
