Wayne Rooney ‘is to whisk wife Coleen on a holiday’

Former England captain Wayne Rooney is to whisk his pregnant wife Coleen on holiday in a desperate bid to save his marriage.

The 31-year-old Everton midfielder has been given time off by the club during this week’s international break which sees England plays two matches.

Rooney recently retired from international football so will instead use his time to take the mother of his three children on a make-or-break trip.

The pair have not finalised a destination but they have mentioned travelling to the Middle East together, according to a source.

The source told The Sun: ‘Wayne wants to take Coleen away to make things up to her and so they can work on their marriage.

‘They haven’t finalised the destination but Dubai has been mentioned.’

It comes after Rooney, who is England’s all-time top goalscorer, was convicted of drink driving.

He was caught behind the wheel of Laura Simpson’s car after meeting her during a night out with former Manchester United teammate Wes Brown.

The party girl, 29, claimed the pair would have had sex if they had not have been pulled over in her VW Beetle by police in Cheshire.

Rooney has reportedly been trying to save his marriage after his wife, also 31, rushed home from holiday to confront him over the arrest.

She has been photographed without her wedding ring in the weeks after his arrest and told him to stop seeing Brown, 37.

Meanwhile, the couple reportedly had a furious argument while watching the dramatic BBC drama Doctor Foster, which features a cheating husband.

The Sun reported the Rooneys had a bust-up after watching the popular show which sees Dr Gemma Foster row with her cheating husband, Simon.

Rooney, who has sons Kai, Klay and Kit with another baby on the way with Coleen, was stopped because Simpson’s car had a faulty brake light.

He was found to be almost three times the legal limit. His breath reading was 104mg per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 35mg.

The Everton striker was handed a 24-month driving ban and given 100 hours’ community service as part of a 12-month community order imposed at Stockport Magistrates’ Court.

Coleen reportedly branded Simpson a ‘fame-seeking slapper’.

MailOnline has contacted Rooney’s representatives for comment.
