Wayne Rooney today confirmed a sensational return to England after little over a year in the USA – but he may not have anywhere to live.
The sprawling 20million Cheshire mansion that he and Colleen have been having built for two and a half years – which has been compared in comments online to large branch of supermarket Morrisons – is still incomplete.
Builders, cranes, skips and building materials were photographed on site today, as the Rooneys prepare to return to the Northwest from their current home in Washington, DC.
Scaffolding was removed from the six-bedroom home earlier this year, but finishing touches are still being made on the property’s numerous interior spaces and two outbuildings.
His new role as player/coach at Derby Country will require a two-and-a-half-hour round trip between the ground and his new home, and wife and four children.

Wayne and Coleen planned to move house for months after the family were left shaken when burglars broke into their home in August 2017.
Previous images of the 40-acre site, taken in May, showed builders working on the roof, with all three floors of the sprawling property erected but a long way from completion.
The vast landscape was first pictured during snowfall in December 2017, but showed the construction on the ground floor was well under way.
The lavish home is said to be designed to feature its own bar, snooker room, cinema and indoor swimming pool.
It will have six bedrooms, all with en-suites, big enough to accommodate their four sons, Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass.
The mega-mansion is also believed to house a spa with a plunge pool, a six car garage and an orangery and a stable where they will be able to keep up to 15 horses.

MailOnline previously reported that a wine cellar and football pitch are also being constructed on the sprawling pile.
Guests will be able to opt for ‘his’ or ‘hers’ changing rooms, and after a dip they can pop outside to the extensive patio and landscaped gardens.
When completed, the property will have two floors as well as a subterranean basement, which will be home to the steam room, hot-tub, gym, cinema room with ten seats, wine cellar and snooker room with bar.
But social media users have compared the Rooney family’s lavish new abode – which is believed to have its own cinema room and a swimming pool – to a Morrisons or Tesco.
One person wrote online: ‘Looks like my local Morrisons supermarket. £20million for that?’
Another said: ‘Surely that is a new Tesco build…?’ while another replied ‘More of a Morrisons I’d say’.
Others even compared it to a Travelodge hotel.
Wayne, Coleen and their children currently split their time between the UK and US, where the 33-year-old plays for DC United in Washington D.C.
This morning it was announced that Derby County had completed the sensational signing of Wayne Rooney on an 18-month contract from DC United, with the former England captain joining the club in January 2020.
Rooney will arrive in a player-coach capacity on an 18-month deal with an option for a further year and brings an end to his time in Major League Soccer following his June 2018 move.
Derby have signed a new club record sponsorship deal with gambling firm and current shirt sponsors 32Red off the back of Rooney joining. Rooney will wear the No 32 shirt, with the cost being supported by club sponsors.

Rooney said: ‘I am very excited about the opportunity that Derby County have provided me with.
‘I am looking forward to joining Phillip Cocu, his coaching staff and the first-team squad from the start of January. I am sure I can make a big contribution and can’t wait to meet everyone, especially the supporters.
‘I am equally excited to begin my coaching career at Derby County working with both the first team and academy.’
The deal to bring Rooney to Derby is believed to include wages of £100,000 a week.
‘The commercial opportunities this creates are widespread and significant,’ Derby chairman Mel Morris said.
‘On the back of Wayne joining the club, we have just been offered a record-breaking sponsorship deal with our principal shirt sponsor, 32Red.
‘We are keen to leverage Wayne’s involvement and the support of 32Red with our community initiatives.’

The 33-year-old Rooney was pictured at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday morning as he arrived back from the United States.
West Brom were looking to hijack Derby’s move for Rooney but the former Manchester United man had agreed to join the set-up under Phillip Cocu.
Cocu said: ‘Wayne Rooney is an extremely talented and top-class footballer. It is an exciting prospect for him to be joining Derby County and he can bring so much to this squad, both on and off the pitch.
‘He has enjoyed a wonderful career, both in club football and for England, and he still has so much to give as well.’
Rooney has been a huge hit in MLS since joining DC United from Everton last summer.
He has 23 goals and 14 assists in 43 appearances for DC, leading the club from the bottom of the Eastern Conference to the play-offs last year.
Rooney added: ‘I remain fully focused on giving my all for the team for the rest of this season and repaying the support shown by the Black-and-Red faithful by hopefully delivering an MLS Cup to Audi Field.’
