Wayne Rooney ‘trying to woo wife Coleen with dates’

Wayne Rooney has reportedly been trying to woo his wife Coleen back with a string of movie dates, after the fallout from his night out with ‘party girl’ Laura Simpson, which culminated in his recent two-year ban from driving.

According to The Sun, the 31-year-old footballer is eager to evoke the feelings brought about from when they initially embarked on their romance, with their first date being a trip to see the 1997 comedy Austin Powers.

A source told the newspaper: ‘Coleen is still really angry with Wayne, so he’s pretty quiet at home and keeping his head down.

‘But he has been gently trying to show how much he loves her by taking her out on the quiet, so they have been to the cinema together, which is something they really enjoy doing.

‘Wayne is hoping that little by little, he can win Coleen around. He wants everything back to normal by Christmas.’

The couple, who are currently expecting their fourth child, also quietly enjoyed a night out at a charity function, which was only revealed when a member of the public took to Twitter to share a snapshot of them in attendance.

Addressing the famous directly, the party attendee shared a snapshot of Coleen holding her baby as she wrote: ‘Hi @ColeenRoo and @WayneRooney, lovely meeting you yesterday, sorry baby was such a grump.’

The couple’s nine-year marriage was put through testing times on September 1, when Wayne, who recently moved from Manchester United to his old football team Everton, was stopped by police after partying the night away with Laura Simpson.

The 29-year-old brunette claimed to have ‘kissed and cuddled’ Wayne while partying with him at Rio Ferdinand’s Manchester restaurant Rosso.

Rosso, which Rio has owned for six years, is the same venue Wayne was said to have met up with former prostitute Jenny Thompson in 2009, with whom he allegedly had an affair as they met up for £1,200-a-night hotel trysts.

Laura has been at the centre of a media storm since meeting Wayne on September 1 during a night of drinking in Cheshire, after which the footballer was then caught three times over the legal limit while driving Laura’s Volkswagen Beetle.

Due to the popularity of the restaurant, Laura was undoubtedly at high risk of bumping into a famous face, so the former office worker, who quit her job after the scandal, was naturally dressed to impress.

She slipped into a pair of green trousers with a black top tucked in on top while pulling on a shaggy coat and Chanel-style handbag with gold hardware. Additionally she appeared to suffer a make-up fail due to her lashings of pressed powder.

Laura’s choice of restaurant was particularly poignant given the fact not only it is owned by Wayne’s long-time Manchester United and England team mate Rio, but also the couple’s frequent visits to the eatery for parties and dinners.

Wayne’s visits to Rosso hit headlines in 2010, when his affair with with Jenny, who starred on Ex On The Beach earlier this year, was revealed and the prostitute divulged she bumped into Wayne in the restaurant.

Speaking at the time about the meet, Jenny said: ‘I went with a few girls and the whole team was there. They were all very drunk. We hadn’t arranged to meet but Wayne spotted me in the crowd.

‘Half an hour later he held my hand in front of everyone and led me away. Michael Owen was looking at him in disgust. Wayne made no effort to be discreet, I was embarrassed. He took me downstairs into the cooking area and into an office.’

On Monday, Wayne apologised for his ‘unforgivable lack of judgement’ as he was banned from driving for two years and given 100 hours’ community servicE.

He was stopped by police while driving party girl Laura home from a night out in her Volkswagen Beetle in Cheshire at 2am on September 1. Wayne was stopped because Laura’s car had a faulty brake light. He was almost three times the legal limit.

The Everton striker was handed a 24 month driving ban and given 100 hours’ community service as part of a 12-month community order imposed at Stockport Magistrates’ Court today.

In his statement he said: ‘Following today’s court hearing I want publicly to apologise for my unforgivable lack of judgment in driving while over the legal limit. It was completely wrong.

‘I have already said sorry to my family, my manager and chairman and everyone at Everton FC. Now I want to apologise to all the fans and everyone else who has followed and supported me throughout my career.

‘Of course I accept the sentence of the court and hope that I can make some amends through my community service.’
