Wedding guests tackle gunman who walked into a New Hampshire church during a ceremony, opened fire on guests and injured two

A gunman is in custody after being tackled by wedding guests when he opened fire during a ceremony in a New Hampshire church. 

Two wedding guests were injured in the shooting at New England Pentecostal Ministries in Pelham, New Hampshire just after 10am Saturday. 

Chief Joseph Roark said in a press conference that officers responded to a call of an active shooter at 10.12am and arrived within three minuted. 

When police arrived to the church the shooter had been ‘detained and subdued’ by the wedding guests and was then taken into custody. 

‘This does not seem to be a random event at this point,’ Chief Roark said.

The two injured wedding guest were treated at the scene and then taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

No deaths have been reported.  

The suspect is now at the Pelham Police Department. 

‘State officials are on scene assisting local first responders in the response and investigation of a shooting in Pelham, NH,’ Governor John Sununu said on Twitter.   

The shooting came just hours before a service was to be held for a church minister who was shot in the neck and killed last week. 

Ordained minister Luis Garcia was found dead inside his home in Londonderry on October  1. Brandon Castiglione, 24, has been charged with second-degree murder in his death. 

Funeral services for Garcia were to be held at noon today at the church, but after the shooting mourners were turned away by police.   

‘He was a Superman stopped by a bullet. He was a Christian Batman hit by a Joker,’ a family member said of Garcia.  

The New York Police Department Counterterrorism Bureau said it is ‘closely monitoring the shooting incident at the New England Pentecostal church in Pelham, NH.’  

The church website describes itself as ‘committed to touching lives dramatically and bringing aid and deliverance to all people regardless of race, creed or color throughout all generations.

‘Our church welcomes people from all parts of New England and the Northeast area.’
