Welsh rugby fans sing ‘Delilah’ before and during Six Nations clash with Ireland

Welsh rugby fans sing ‘Delilah’ before and during Six Nations clash with Ireland after the WRU banned Principality Stadium choir from singing the 1968 song amid allegations of sexism, misogyny and racism against the union

Wales fans ignored the WRU’s ban on the Principality Stadium choir singing Sir Tom Jones’s hit Delilah in their side’s Six Nations clash with Ireland.

After being rocked by allegations of sexism, racism and misogyny, the WRU told the choir that performs before their home matches not to sing the song.

Jones’ 1968 hit has been a traditional Welsh rugby song down the years but it contains lyrics that now upset some people.

However, it was still sung on several occasions by sections of the Welsh crowd yesterday and was also sung outside Principality stadium before kick-off.

Last week, a Principality Stadium spokesman said: ‘Delilah will not feature on the playlist for choirs for rugby internationals.’

Guest choirs have also been told not to feature the song at Wales matches.

But the decision was criticised by Wales wing Louis Rees-Zammit, who wrote on Twitter on Wednesday: ‘All the things they need to do and they do that first.’
