Wendy Williams has shut down claims that her ongoing dementia battle has made her ‘permanently incapacitated’ in a rare radio interview on Thursday morning.
The radio icon, 60, called into The Breakfast Club to plea for her freedom from her controversial guardianship, as she spoke with her former radio co-host Charlamagne Tha God.
The headline-making talk show host – who was diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia in May 2023 – described her current situation as ’emotional abuse’ in the damning chat.
Wendy stated to the shows’ hosts: ‘I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison. I am definitely isolated.
‘To talk to these people who live here, that is not my cup of tea. I keep the door closed.’
The former Wendy Williams Show host described her stark difference of her daily life as she noted: ‘I watch TV. I listen to the radio. I watch the window. I sit here, and my life goes by.’
Wendy Williams, 60, was seen having a heated argument with her caretakers after dinner in Miami last week following her son Kevin Jr.’s college graduation; seen in documentary Where Is Wendy Williams (2024)
Wendy added that she no longer has the company of her pet cats and claimed that they are now ‘gone’ – claiming that they had been taken despite her ‘wanting them with her’.
The TV star revealed that she ultimately hopes to move to Florida so she can live there with her family.
For now the star is just focused on being able to travel out to Miami next month in order to celebrate her beloved dad’s birthday.
In an Instagram post before the interview took place, Charlamagne penned a caption about conservatorships and guardianships, which he insisted are ‘designed to preserve dignity’ and ‘not control.’
‘Conservatorships and guardianships should exist to empower, protect and support individuals — not to confine them in invisible prisons,’ the talk show host wrote.
‘Tomorrow morning on @breakfastclubam #WendyWilliams will remind us that these systems must be transparent, compassionate, and designed to preserve dignity, not control. Let’s discuss.’
The interview comes weeks after Williams made a rare public appearance last month for a special occasion to support her family.
She was spotted supporting her son Kevin Hunter Jr. as he graduated from Florida International University.
Her outing came just weeks after she was declared ‘permanently incapacitated’ by her guardian.
In court documents filed by Sabrina Morissey in November 2024, Williams was described as being ‘cognitively impaired and permanently incapciitated’ after being diagnosed with early-onset dementia.
She has been under a legal guardianship since 2022.
Earlier this year, a source close to her family claimed they have ‘largely been denied contact’ with her by her guardian, per People.
