West Ham are ready to step up their interest in Russia striker Fyodor Smolov after watching him score his 12th goal of the season on Sunday.

The £15million-rated Krasnodar forward scored the decisive goal in his side’s 1-0 triumph away to Ural Sver Oblast.

It was his 12th goal in 14 games for club and country this season and that has alerted Bundesliga sides Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen too who are both keen on the Russia captain.

Smolov is destined to lead his country at the World Cup this summer but is open to a move from Krasnodar in January.

The 27-year-old speaks fluent English and is understood to be interested in moving to London in particular.

West Ham are looking to boost their firepower in the January window and Smolov’s record of scoring over 50 goals since moving to Krasnodar in 2015 makes him an attractive proposition.

However, they now face competition from the Bundesliga sides who have been following Smolov’s progress.

West Ham, who have also considered the likes of Liverpool’s Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge, want to add a box to box midfielder and a defender too.
