Western Bulldogs skipper slapped on bum by Adelaide crows fan

Western Bulldogs skipper Easton Wood has broken his silence over a fan inappropriately touched him during the Friday night game against the Adelaide Crows.

The premiership player has said he was surprised by the ‘slap’ on the back side and disappointed it was allowed to happen.

‘I didn’t say anything (to the fan),’ Wood said on Channel 7.

‘I certainly wasn’t hurt or anything like that. I was a bit surprised. My preference would be to be able to go to work and not get slapped on the a**e by a complete stranger.’

Wood added that he hoped it wouldn’t happen again and the Adelaide Crows have said they are investigating the incident.

The incident was caught on camera and showed the fan reaching over the barrier and touching Wood, who quickly turned back to the crowd to see who had slapped him. The fan was wearing a Crows member lanyard.

Over social media viewers rallied against the out of line fan calling for them to be banned from watching the game live.

‘Old mate leaning over the fence and going the bum tap on Easton Wood. No need for that,’ one user wrote.

‘A customer in the crowd leaned over the fence and touched an opposition player. Is that a one game suspension?’ another asked.

An Adelaide Crows spokesman told The Sunday Herald Sun said the fan needed to be identified and that they would not comment on what sort of repercussions he would face after that happened.

Several big names from the AFL heave expressed major disappointment over the inappropriate contact.

Hawthorn legend Jason Dunstall said there should be zero tolerance for crowd members touching players.

‘Even though there’s nothing untoward say, if you allow that, it only takes one player to be hit a little bit too hard and all of a sudden he goes back at the person in the crowd and then it’s out of hand,’he told Fox sport.

Former St Kilda star Nick Riewoldt said that players shouldn’t t be expected to put up with that and that while they’r in their workplace the shouldn’t be touched.

Collingwood president Eddie McGuire echoed the sentiment.

‘If you lean over, you should be thrown immediately out of the ground,’ he said.
