The outage occurred before the business day started at 9am (AEDST), with the bank saying its IT team were working on the issue.

Some Westpac customers used social media to report the issue had been resolved and they could once again access online banking services by 10,30am (AEDST).

Westpac said shortly after that services had returned to normal and blamed the outage on a ‘technical update’.

‘We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and thank you for your patience.’
