What are the most popular pet names in Australia for 2022

The most popular pet names for 2022 are revealed – and you might be surprised by the number one pick

  • The top male dog name is Milo, while Ziggy makes both lists for the first time

The top pet names of 2022 have been revealed with Luna, Bella and Archie continuing to dominate the list while Ziggy and Murphy make their debuts.

Luna was the top name for female cats and dogs while Archie and Charlie were popular for males.

The list, which was compiled by Pet Insurance Australia, showed the top trending names for cats and dogs born in 2022.

‘It’s lovely to explore these lists every year to see the current trends with pet names,’ Nadia Crighton from Pet Insurance Australia said.

While there was some crossover between the cat list and the dog list most of the popular monikers only made it onto one.

The top name for a male dog was Milo, according to the insurer’s data, while the top name for a male cat was Ollie, which ranked in seventh place for dogs. 

Female cats appeared to be named after pantry staples with Pepper, Maple, Biscuit and Candy all making the list. 

Male cats were more likely to have names common for children, including Ollie, Archie, Charlie, Sam, Teddy and Ziggy.

While female dogs continues to carry on monikers which have been able to pass the tests of time including Daisy, Bella, Ruby, Molly and Lola.
