What burglar tells 90-year-old woman he is looking for her jewellery

A brazen burglar told a 90-year-old Alzheimer’s sufferer he was ‘looking for her jewellery’ when he broke into her home while she slept. 

The vulnerable woman was sleeping in her bed in Bromley, south east London, when she saw him standing outside her window.

He then forced open the window and footage shows the man – in his late 30s or early 40s – approaching the victim’s dresser and rummaging around for valuables. 

The woman asked him what he was doing and he replied: ‘I am looking for jewellery’ and continued to search the property.

He even told the 90-year-old that he was 'looking for her jewellery' and continued to search her bedroom

He then went into the living room and looked around before going back into the bedroom.

The man patted the victim on the shoulder and ended up fleeing with a quantity of jewellery in a white paper bag. Officers have released images of some of the items taken.

Detectives are desperately trying to track him down after the incident at 6.30pm on March 6 left the victim ‘terrified’ and her family are ‘devastated’.

Detective Constable Dean Roberts of Bromley police, said: ‘This incident has left the victim absolutely terrified and her family devastated. She has been targeted in a place where she has every right to feel at her most safe and comfortable.

‘The CCTV footage is very clear. Do you recognise the man captured in these images?

‘We also believe a torch light was shone through the window while the man was inside, suggesting there may have been an accomplice who was not caught on camera. Did you see two people acting suspiciously in the area?

‘I would urge anyone with information to call us as soon as possible.’
