JUUL started off as a way of providing the world’s one billion smokers with an alternative to combustible tobacco products. With their goal to completely eliminate smoking, JUUL has now become the number one vapour product in the United States, according to Nielsen.
JUUL was founded by Stanford design student graduates Adam Bowen and James Monsees in 2015 who applied their knowledge of technology innovation and industrial design to create an e-cigarette product.
JUUL Labs CEO Tyler Goldman told CNBC that “when people say it’s a good problem to have, I think about it a little differently. The company’s goal is to switch cigarette users,” he said.

“And to do that, JUUL needs to have enough products to satisfy users’ nicotine cravings. To achieve our mission, we really need to make sure that we have enough pods per device, and if we’re not getting enough devices out into the marketplace, it means we’re not giving people the option to switch to JUUL,” Goldman said.
As what Men’s Fitness described as ‘the iPhone of e-cigs’, JUUL is a real alternative to cigarettes designed with smokers, that are looking to switch, in mind. The JUUL vapouriser uses nicotine salts, JUULsalts, that are found in the tobacco leaf, rather than free-base nicotine, that standard cigarettes burn. This is what gives vapers the satisfaction that nicotine provides as well as an authentic smoking experience.
Its compact and portable design with algorithmic puff consistency and temperature-regulated vapour made it stand out amongst other smoking alternatives and is now the number one independent vapour brand. The brand had 27% of dollar market share of the total e-cigarette category, according to Nielsen data provided by JUUL Labs and since 2015, JUUL have sold more than one million devices in the US.
What are JUUL pods?
According to the JUUL’s FAQ, ‘JUUL uses a closed loop temperature control algorithm to deliver the ideal amount of power at any given time to the JUULpod. The e-liquid formula, or Juice, is heated using an industry standard wick and nichrome coil system.’ Each JUULpod contains 0.7ml of liquid with 5% nicotine by weight, which is equivalent to 1 pack of cigarettes or 200 puffs. JUULpods cannot be refilled.
With investment from the likes of Tiger Global and Fidelity Investment, JUUL are on track to manufacture 20 million JUULpods per month by the end of 2017, up from less than one million per month in January this year. They also expect to double to 40 million within the next six months, a JUUL spokesperson recently revealed.

What JUUL flavours are available?
JUULpods are available in mango, virginia tobacco, cool mint, fruit medley and creme brulee flavours. JUUL also offers some Limited Edition flavours from time to time.
How much does JUUL cost?
According to the website, a JUUL starter-kit can be purchased for $49.99 and includes one rechargeable JUUL device, one multi JUULpod 4-pack and a USB charger. One JUULpod pack currently costs $15.99 and contains four cartridges.
Can I buy JUUL in the UK?
At the moment, JUUL only ships around the US, but websites like eBay or DHgate have JUUL starter-kits and JUULpods available to purchase and can deliver to the UK.
