What to buy to lose weight: Dietitian shares the EXACT grocery shopping list to get lean

An Australian dietitian has revealed the exact shopping list she recommends to clients who want to lose weight.

Susie Burrell, from Sydney, said you don’t have to starve yourself in order to lose weight, and you can still enjoy your favourite foods like bread, cheese and the odd sweet treat while getting lean.

‘This week, I went in search of products that I specifically use in meal plans for weight control,’ Susie posted on Instagram.

‘This isn’t exhaustive and doesn’t include fruits and vegetables because they wouldn’t fit, but here are a few of my favourites.’

LOWER CARB BREAD

The first thing Susie said she always picks up is low carb bread from Helga’s Bakehouse.

‘Helga’s have a great range of lower carb, wholegrain wraps and loaves,’ Susie said.

On this occasion, she opted for the low-carb sliced bread, which is great for mid-week sandwiches and in the morning for avocado or Vegemite on toast.

CRACKERS

The second item Susie picks up without fail is some crackers.

She particularly likes the lighter-calorie options, including Rye Cruskits and Corn Thins.

Both of these work well for afternoon or mid-morning snacks, and they can be topped with everything from cheese to tuna, avocado or hummus.

CHEESE

Cheese needn’t be abandoned if you want to lose weight.

‘Cottage cheese, light Philadelphia, goat’s cheese and light Jarlsberg are all great options for dieters,’ Susie said.

She puts these in her lunches during the working week and advises clients on weight loss programs to do the same, as the protein in cheese works wonders at suppressing your appetite for longer.

You can also eat ready meals when you're on a diet, and Susie loves the La Zuppa pouch soups, Slendier noodles and Lean Cuisine nutri bowls and protein plus meals in particular (pictured)

On this occasion, she picked up a kale and quinoa soup from La Zuppa, as well as some noodles and ready meals for busy days.

SWEET TREATS

The best sweet treats for weight loss include low calorie hot chocolates, chocolate rice cakes from Table of Plenty, mini chocolate bars from Carman’s Kitchen and mini Weis bars for a hot day.

‘Mini Weis bars always hit the sweet spot for a low calorie treat,’ Susie said.

‘A cold coffee is also a staple recommendation.’

YOGHURTS

‘Chobani Flip No Added Sugar are a great option,’ Susie said.

‘Two Good, YoPro and The Culture Co are among my favourites.’

The dietitian recommends Tassal salmon if you're looking for an 'Omega 3 hit' (pictured), and she also buys smoked oysters - which are a 'high protein snack if you like them'

DIPS

When it comes to dips, Susie likes tzatziki or beetroot by Chris’s Dips ‘if you can find it’.

MEAT

Make sure you buy ‘extra lean everything’ with your meat, including your turkey mince and Peppercorn Food sausages.

When you eat extra lean meat, you’re less likely to end up getting fatty pieces but rather just the good parts.
