Pink is not a colour I’ve ever been drawn to. It reminds me of princesses and candy floss . . . and hyper-masculine bankers trying to prove they’ve got a feminine side with a tactical choice of shirt. That is until now. In fashion circles, the colour has shed its girly image. It reigned supreme on the catwalks for Autumn/Winter ’19. French label Jacquemus sent an entire magenta ensemble down the runway —
everything from vast loop earrings to pointed-toe heels and a spectacular oversized trench was pink. Closer to home, British designer Sarah Burton used the same blinding pink for an Alexander mcQueen stunning strapless evening dress with layers of folded fabric.

BEAT WINTER BLUES
I had been looking forward to the usual muted winter palette of browns, blues, blacks and grey, with the odd forest green or burnt orange thrown in for good measure. Then I saw this season’s pink. It’s an almost fluorescent, mood-lifting hue, which instantly brightens wardrobes and dazzles anyone within 100 metres. It’s arresting, it’s powerful; and it’s on the high street, too.
TEAM WITH SOFT SHADES
The statement trousers I’m wearing here from Zara have a flattering front pleat that will lengthen any leg. Wear yours with a navy or grey; it creates a softer aesthetic than black. Jigsaw has a range of hot pink styles and fabrics: a satin dress, a velvet miniskirt, tailored trousers and a wool jumper. And & other Stories has a belted shirtjacket and ruffled, button-up midi-dress. This season’s hue can be worn head-to-toe or as a single pop of colour, like the marc Jacobs bag (below), to perk up an otherwise understated outfit
