Whatsapp is DOWN users around the world left frustrated

WhatsApp has mysteriously stopped sending or receiving messages for users worldwide. 

There are widespread problems across northern Europe, Mexico and Brazil, according to the website Down Detector.

However, some users in those areas still appear to be able to get online.

 

There have been multiple reports of WhatsApp going down in areas across the globe, with Europe and Singapore hit particularly hard by the outage

The outage was first reported at 4.15pm BST (11.15pm ET).

Downdetector.com registered a peak of 4,853 users experiencing issues with WhatsApp today. 

The website registered an overall peak of 4,853 users experiencing problems this afternoon.

The majority of WhatsApp issues is with connection, with some 60 per cent of users experiencing connectivity problems, according to Down Detector.

Around a third are experiencing problems sending or receiving messages while 10 per cent are having login problems.

UK registered a peak of 2,716 WhatsApp users experiencing issues.

WhatsApp is generally considered reliable with outages rarely lasting more than one hour.

The Facebook-owned app is used by more than one billion people globally so problems can cause havoc.

Sources suggest there is no obvious way to get back online if you are affected by the outage, according to the Independent. 

The outage appears to have begun around 16:00 BST (11:00 ET) today with downdetector.com receiving a flurry of reports around this time
