Where have the child stars from Harry Potter ended up?

Harry Potter’s child actors have had very different fates since the final film Deathly Hallows Part 2 hit cinemas in 2011.

The epic wizarding series grossed more than £6billion at the box office and shot stars such as Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) into the limelight.

Daniel bagged a lead role in The Woman In Black, Rupert featured in music videos with singer Ed Sheeran, while Emma gained even more fame from her roles in Beauty And The Beast and Little Women.

But some of the more obscure characters – and where they’ve ended up – may shock you.

As a new Harry Potter series – which will make a season out of each book – has been announced on HBO Max, MailOnline takes a deep dive into what happened to the films’ original cast.

From arrests over cannabis possession to Hollywood fame, many of the actors are now unrecognisable from their days in Hogwarts.

Vincent Crabbe – played by Jamie Waylett

Crabbe and Goyle were the sidekicks of Harry’s long-term arch-nemesis and rival Draco Malfoy.

A member of the Slytherin house, bully Crabbe was pictured as sly and mean – but stupid and greedy at the same time, coming from a long line of dark wizards.

Key moments included Harry and Ron taking polyjuice potion to impersonate them in the Chamber of Secrets to get information out of Draco.

In The Deathly Hallows, Crabbe accidentally killed himself after setting fire to the Room Of Requirement.

And actor Jamie, now 33, has had a troubled history since the show – which began during filming.

He was replaced in the final film after being arrested in 2009 for growing marijuana in his family home and later pleaded guilty to the possession of cannabis and possession of a knife.

In 2012 he was arrested for his participation in the London riots the previous year over charges of ‘violent disorder, having an article with intent to destroy or damage property, and receiving stolen goods’.

As Crabbe was his only known acting role, Jamie has now resorted to making Cameo appearances – where fans pay for a short personalised message from a celebrity – to gain cash.

He charges £160 per video message.

Dudley Dursley – played by Harry Melling

Harry’s very spoilt cousin Dudley, the son of his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon, causes difficulties for the budding wizard right from the start of The Philosopher’s Stone.

Overweight and lazy, Dudley bullied Harry out of jealousy – until magic became involved, such as when Hagrid gave him a pig’s tale for scoffing Harry’s birthday cake.

Actor Harry Melling, 34, now looks unrecognisable and has scored high-hitting roles, such as in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit as Harry Beltik.

Harry, who has also starred in The Pale Blue Eye and The Old Guard, spoke about his weight loss with The Independent in December.

He said: ‘I went to drama school and I lost some weight and that’s it. To me!’

He added that he is not in touch with his Harry Potter co-stars, as he didn’t spend much time with them on set.

Draco Malfoy – played by Tom Felton

Tom, 35, played ‘bad boy’ Draco Malfoy – the son of death eater Lucius. .

In the early films, the focus was on petty rivalries between Harry and Draco, for example in Quidditch, but his character later became more complicated due to Draco’s loyalty to Voldemort, whilst having a hint of a redemption arc.

Draco recently went viral on TikTok, with fans editing themselves into scenes with the beloved character.

For years fans have wished for Tom and Emma Watson – who plays Hermione Granger – to become an item, despite their characters’ hatred for one another on the show.

Emma Watson has in the past admitted having a crush on Tom when filming for Harry Potter started.

In 2019 the pair were pictured together, with Tom showing Emma how to play the guitar while she sat in her pyjamas.

In his memoir in October 2022, Tom wrote about his ‘secret love’ for his co-star, admitting ‘my girlfriend at the time knew that there was something unspoken between the two of us’.

However, the two have never confirmed a romance.

The heartthrob dated Jade Olivia Gordon – who played his wife in the final scenes of The Deathly Hallows – from 2008 to 2016.

Tom has also attempted a music career, releasing a new EP YoOHoO back in 2021.

He did score some success, however, with single If You Could Be Anywhere, which has amassed almost 12 million streams.

He has continued to star on TV and in film and made his theatre debut in May 2022 in 2:22 A Ghost Story on the West End.

Cedric Diggory – played by Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson, 36, has perhaps achieved the most success since his Harry Potter days, shooting to global fame after his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga.

The actor only appeared in one Harry Potter film, as the ill-fated Cedric Diggory, with whom Harry competes in the Triwizard Tournament.

Poor Cedric, Harry’s rival for the affections of Cho Chang, comes to a sticky end after the final round when a portkey takes them to a graveyard where Lord Voldemort awaits.

Despite earning millions from his role as vampire Edward Cullen, Robert has always showed disdain for the role, once saying that the books should never have been published.

He entered into a high-profile on/off relationship with his co-star Kristen Stewart, who played Bella in the saga during filming.

Kristen’s affair with married Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders was revealed by raunchy pictures in the press and the couple split for good in 2013, leaving fans devastated.

Rob has since starred in The Batman (2022) and has been dating singer and Daisy Jones And The Six star Suki Waterhouse since 2018. The couple live together in London.

Ginny Weasley – played by Bonnie Wright

Youngest Weasley sibling – and only daughter – Ginny harboured a crush on Harry ever since the first film, with the pair finally getting together in The Half Blood Prince.

Fans have long criticised her character in the film – known in the books for being brave, strong and excellent at Quidditch – for seeming awkward, particularly in romantic scenes with Harry.

Bonnie, 32, now owns her own film production company BoBonLumiere, where she produces short films.

She is also renowned for her environmental activism, including being an ambassador for charities Greenpeace and Lumos and even publishing a book filled with tips to save the environment – Go Gently: Actionable Steps to Nurture Yourself and the Planet.

In March 2022, Bonnie revealed on Instagram that she had married her long-term boyfriend, Andrew Lococo.

She was previously engaged to Jamie Campbell Bower, who starred as the young Gellert Grindelwald in The Deathly Hallows Part One, but they split up in 2012.

Cho Chang – played by Katie Leung

Ravenclaw Cho Chang was Harry’s first crush – and his first kiss.

She dated Cedric Diggory in The Goblet Of Fire, rejecting a nervous Harry’s invite to the Yule Ball, but warmed to Harry after Cedric’s death.

In the Order Of The Phoenix she sobbed through a kiss with Harry, but any budding romance is abandoned after she betrays Dumbledore’s Army.

Scottish actress Katie Leung, 35, has since starred as Caitlyn in animated series Arcane and Ash in the sci-fi series The Peripheral on Amazon Prime.

Katie has now cropped her signature locks and in January revealed she has a son, Wolf.
