Which industries are hiring the most people? Here’s a country-by-country breakdown

After a record number of people quit their jobs over the pandemic, the ‘great resignation’ has cooled down and new analysis revealed the industries the most people in every country.

Data from the United States Chamber of Commerce shows there is more of a ‘great reshuffle’ rather than resignation because the hiring rate has outpaced the quit rate since November 2020.

Women are also re-entering the workforce after being forced out during the pandemic. Women’s participation rate reached a record high of 77.5 percent in April. 

The US Chamber says that the US has 8.8 million job openings, but only 6.3 million unemployed workers. 

Employers are struggling to fill openings and Resume.io analyzed current LinkedIn job listings to see which industries are currently most in need of talent around the world.

They found staffing and recruiting tied with IT services and consulting for the sectors doing the most hiring in the most countries. 

North America   

Resume.io found that restaurant industry has the most vacancies in the United States. It accounted for 7.86 percent of job ads in June.

Demand for dining out is reaching pre-pandemic levels, the US Census Bureau shows that retail and food service sales for August were up 2.5 percent from the year before.

The National Restaurant Association found that restaurants employ more minority managers than any other industry and waitstaff at full service restaurants earn a median of $27.00 an hour – making it a desirable industry.

While unemployment in Canada remains steady near an all-time low in the 5.5 percent range according to government data, hospitals and health care job openings account for 14.82 percent of listings.

Global News reports healthcare jobs in Canada have more than doubled since the pandemic, and a report found many people are leaving the industry due to burnout.

In Mexico, IT services and consulting account for the most job openings. Government data shows that Mexico has a workforce of 58.5 million people with the largest concentration of workers in the sales industry.

South America 

A shocking 304,162 migrants tried to cross the US border in August, many of whom were coming from South American countries.

The Washington Office on Latin America found in August, the migrant population was 77 percent Venezuelan and others came from Ecuador and Colombia.

Data from US Bureau of Labor Statistics show that between July and August, there was a staggering decrease of 1.223million native-born people in the workforce. In stark contrast almost 688,000 jobs were secured by foreign-born workers.

Resume.io found that the industry hiring the most people in Venezuela is the consumer service industry. In Ecuador it’s IT services and consulting.

They found in Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Bolivia HR services had the most openings.

In Brazil, the technology, information and internet industry had the most listings.


Government data shows low unemployment in the UK, and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has launched a new drive to help young people find work and fill worker shortages.

In the United Kingdom, construction jobs make up the most job listings and experts believe that is due to misconceptions about conditions and pay in the industry.

 Germany, France and the Netherlands all have the most openings for staffing and recruiting jobs.

IT services and consulting account for the most openings in Poland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia and Bulgaria.


The World Bank estimates economic growth will slow down across Africa due global economic sluggishness, lingering inflation and tough financial conditions with high debt.

While the World Bank predicts growth will pick up in the future, it won’t be enough to reduce extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity.  

In Kenya, Ethiopia and Tunisia have the most openings in software development. In Nigeria and Angola HR Services account for the most job listings.


Russia is faced with economic turmoil as it wages war with Ukraine, even senior Russian figure, Andrey Nechayev criticized that economic sanctions from the west will put the country in financial crisis.  

While heading towards economic disaster, Resume.io found that technology, information and internet industry has the most openings in Russia.

Technology, information and internet also has the most openings in China. In Japan and South Korea IT services and consulting has the highest number of listings.


Down under, just three sectors account for 30 percent of the jobs available in Australia, with government administration coming out on top accounting for 11.60 percent of listings. The other two are staffing and recruiting and hospitals and health care.

While government data revealed Australia is seeing historically low unemployment, that is not translating to decent pay raises.

Experts said white-collar professionals who worked from home had the weakest wages growth.

Some Aussies are missing out on high paying jobs, recruiters are struggling to fill roles in the mining industry that pay over $150k because of the industry reputation. 

In New Zealand and Papua New Guinea, staffing and recruiting had the most job postings.
