Heated debate sparked over ‘unspoken’ rule for where men and women should sit on a date

  • Women claim they deserve the booth seat on a date
  • Many say it is an ‘unspoken rule’
  • Others hit back claiming men need to face the door

Thousands are divided over an ‘unspoken rule’ many couples say they abide by in restaurants.

People are arguing over whether or not it is a given that the woman sits on the booth side of the table when out on a date at a restaurant.

Many said there are practical reasons for woman sitting on the booth chair like having somewhere to put their bags.

While men chimed in saying they prefer to be positioned facing the door to ‘protect’ their spouse in an emergency.

‘When your fiance doesn’t get the unspoken rules that girls belong on the booth,’ one woman said in an Instagram video sparking a heated debate.

She showed her boyfriend sitting across from her in the bench seat in a restaurant while all the surrounding couples at their tables were arranged so the women were sat in the booths

She showed her boyfriend sitting across from her in the cushioned bench seat in a restaurant while all the surrounding couples at their tables were arranged so the women were sat in the booths.

Dozens of women put their arguments forward as to why wives and girlfriends ‘deserve’ the booth seat over their male partners.

‘Women need the booth to rest their purse. It’s about practicality,’ one viewer pointed out.

‘Personally I prefer the booths to hide my stomach bloating after I eat,’ laughed another.

‘If they’re wearing heels out and dress/makeup that needs consistent readjustments through the night, best bet is to give them the more comfortable seat,’ a third noted.

‘I just thought it was because it was more comfy in the booths or like window seats,’ someone else added.

The tongue in cheek claim did lead to some serious answers as both men and women alike said boyfriends and husband need to face the door.

‘No, I can observe threat facing the open area not by having my back to it,’ one man said.

‘NOPE! The girls back to the exit so the man has eyes on an emergency,’ a second agreed.

‘For me my man has to have whatever side faces the door and I respect that,’ another replied.

However the protective stance confused many commenters with one hitting back: ‘Are the fellas in the comments okay? What warzone (and decade) are you living in?’.

‘Are y’all living in the 1800’s? Why does ‘yOUr ProTecToR’ need to be facing the door? What is he gonna do if someone walked in there with a weapon? Just choose a seat and move on,’ a second snapped.

Some said they don’t care what side they sit on and others had never even heard of the ‘rule’ while people in same-sex relationships joked the rule doesn’t exist for them.

‘I like to sit on the chair as close to the table as possible, y’all can have the booth,’ one man laughed.

‘Never heard of it. We take turns, sometimes during the same meal,’ a second said.

‘Are straight people okay?’ someone else joked.

Some put forward a simple and more romantic solution to the problem.

‘Umm I scooch and we both sit in booth,’ one person said and second put forward: ‘The right answer: Get real close and both sit on the booth.’
