England face a massive challenge to end their 58-year wait for a major trophy, as they a Spain side who have been the outstanding team of the tournament.

The Three Lions were criticised for their performances at the start of the tournament but have shown great resiliency to get through the knockout stages.

England’s stars will become heroes if they are able to beat the pre-match favourites, as they would become the first men’s team to lift a major trophy since the iconic 1966 World Cup winning team.

They will be hungry for victory after falling just short at the last European Championship.

OLIVER HOLT

Spain 0 England 1

I’ve backed England from the start so I’m not going to switch horses now. It is right that Spain are favourites but somehow, England have found a way to win when the odds have been stacked against them in this tournament — and they can do it again.

CHRIS SUTTON

Spain 2 England 1

There can be no ignoring the strengths of Spain — the most stylish side of these Euros who have won all six of their games while facing tough opposition. Here’s hoping I’m wrong.

MARTIN KEOWN

Spain 0 England 0, 1-1 aet

(England win on penalties)

I backed England at the start of these Euros and I still am with a prediction of a long, but triumphant evening. A goalless game, a goal apiece in extra time, and then a historic win from the spot.

DANNY MURPHY

Spain 2 England 2

(England to win on pens)

Spain would probably win six or seven games out of 10 but this is a one-off final and the way the tournament has gone, the England players will feel this is their time.

SAMI MOKBEL

Spain 1 England 1

(England to win on pens)

Defending has been England’s strength here in Germany and they’ll need all that resilience to keep the Spaniards at bay. But they’ll keep it tight and win in the shootout.

IAN LADYMAN

Spain 1 England 1

(England win on penalties)

Harry Kane can exploit Spain’s aerial vulnerability and score with a header. It’s coming home.

STEPH HOUGHTON

Spain 1 England 2

It’s coming home! Similar to the Netherlands game, I think Spain will score first and dominate possession. Gareth will then make the changes which will help us to win the game. Phil Foden to score!

CRAIG HOPE

Spain 1 England 1

(England win on penalties)

It would be the ultimate redemption arc, winning a first major tournament since 1966 via a penalty shootout in Germany. Spain are the form team, but England have the better players, including La Liga’s Player of the Year. I suspect this is going the distance, and that is when penalty experts England (who would have thought?) will prevail.
