Why a celebrity approved ‘magic hair dust’ by KYK Hair has generated $1.3million in sales

Why this celebrity-beloved ‘magic hair dust’ has already generated $1.3MILLION in sales: ‘I won’t use anything else’

  • Kristina Youssef, who lives in Melbourne, launched KYK Hair from her home
  • She developed a volumising hair spray for $26.45 in a 20 gram bottle
  • Celebrities like Paris Hilton and Christine Quinn have all used it in their hair
  • KYK Hair has gone on to generate $1.3million in sales as a result

A professional Australian hairstylist has created a celebrity-approved volume powder to help finish any hairstyle – and has already sold 15,000 units in 18 months.

Kristina Youssef, who lives in Melbourne, Victoria, specialised in haircare for 14 years before deciding to launch KYK Hair on her 30th birthday using money she had leftover from selling her ‘dream car’.

After 18 months the company had generated $1.3million in sales.

‘Six months after my husband bought me my dream car I sold it to invest in KYK Hair. We stored all the inventory in our double garage at home because having a warehouse would have been way too expensive,’ the young entrepreneur said on TikTok.

‘On our launch day we were so lucky to be so successful… we sold out of so many of our products. So three months later we were in a warehouse. And six months after that we were stocked in retail.’

Her incredible tale is in part thanks to the success of the $26.45 Magic Dust Volume Powder which has been used on the likes of Paris Hilton, Shay Mitchell, Christine Quinn, Adriana Lima, Belle Lucia and the Kid Laroi.

Having endorsed some of the world’s largest hair care brands Mrs Youssef realised there was a gap in the market for texture hair powders.

She recognised that it’s a staple product that is used on almost every hairstyle but it’s always in such a small bottle.

Kristina found that she and her stylists were restocking far too often and it was proving very expensive.

‘As a busy stylist specialising in bridal of up to eight weddings a week, I would find that I was buying a new volume powder bottle every weekend. The product was also very overpriced. Some brands sell 11 grams of powder for $57,’ she said.

‘The shaker was another downfall of the product because it was not consumer friendly, always falling all over the place. I also struggled with the white powder colour leaving residue in dark hair, causing an issue when it was visible and hard to remove.’

After struggling with other products on the market in August 2019 Kristina decided to formulate a new volume powder designed in a much larger bottle.

After months of sampling she found a pump bottle of 20 grams.

From humble beginnings in Melbourne to Hollywood, Mrs Youssef has found her products picked up around the world

She worked on formulating a workable powder that was 100 per cent transparent even on the darkest hair colours and smelt like watermelon.

Magic Dust Volume Powder was born and launched at an affordable price, half the cost with double the amount of product for stylists and hair enthusiasts.

The reviews speak for themselves with more than 400 rating it a top mark of five stars.

‘Love the pump action delivery of the product. So easy to be accurate with the placement of product, rather than the traditional shaking/tapping on method. Will keep buying,’ one woman said.

‘As a hairstylist I have tried almost all the texturising and volume powders and The Magic Dust is without a doubt the best I have used,’ said another.

A third added: ‘Cannot style without this magic product! Best for volume and a super long lasting style to keep the waves perfectly in place once finished.’
