Why Adam Elliott’s teammates are fed-up with the NRL player after toilet tryst

Furious teammates of fallen NRL star Adam Elliott wouldn’t be shattered if he is sacked by the Canterbury Bulldogs.

Elliott, 26, was already ‘off’ with many of his Belmore buddies after he was busted kissing Kara Childerhouse, the fiancée of former teammate Michael Lichaa, in another drunken incident back in February.

His latest off-field indiscretion, where he was caught up in a toilet tryst with NRLW star Millie Boyle at a Gold Coast restaurant on Sunday night, is reportedly the last straw in the eyes of many teammates.

According to the Daily Telegraph, fed up players will publicly back Elliott – but behind closed doors is a different matter.

Many who Elliott plays alongside with want to see him fined heavily or shown the door.

‘He (Elliott) just has a few things to work on, that’s all,’ Bulldogs forward Ava Seumanufagai told reporters.

‘Apart from his off-field stuff, he does bring a lot to this squad.’

On Thursday afternoon, Channel 9 reporter Danny Weidler tweeted Elliott was facing a $10,000 fine for his bathroom ‘conduct’. He is also tipped to be asked a show cause to the board as to why he should remain a Bulldogs player.

If Elliott is sent packing by the Bulldogs, the club would have sufficient money in its salary cap to chase Newcastle Knights halfback Mitchell Pearce long term.

The Bulldogs are in a rebuilding phase, and will ‘win’ the wooden spoon after just two victories this season.

Next year the likes of Melbourne Storm flyer Josh Addo-Carr as well as Penrith Panthers duo Matt Burton and Brent Naden will be on Canterbury’s books – and the pressure to perform will be instant.

Elliott’s future will be made clearer after the NRL Integrity Unit completes its investigation into Sunday’s incident.

Trent Barrett’s playing group know on the drama scale, Elliott’s conduct on the Glitter Strip wasn’t reprehensible – but it added to his significant rap sheet.

Earlier this week pub baron Arthur Laundy, the major sponsor of Elliott’s Canterbury Bulldogs team through Laundy Hotels, said he was keen to keep the star forward at the club – provided he gives up alcohol entirely.

‘Adam called me and he was so down, he knew he’d done the wrong thing,’ Laundy told the Sydney Morning Herald after Sunday’s incident.

‘He needs to give the grog away. You only need to look at what’s happened on each of the occasions [he is intoxicated]. He’s got that gene in him that doesn’t help when you’re drinking.’

Elliott has already been stood down for the club’s two remaining games against the Sea Eagles and Tigers.

Several board members reportedly find the back-rower’s off-field behaviour tiresome, and he could be cut loose as a result.

Elliott and Ms Boyle were reportedly busted in the men’s bathroom looking for a place to be ‘intimate’.

It has since emerged the pair were kissing in the bathroom because they did not want to be seen by WAGs of other Bulldogs players at the restaurant.

The pair, who are both single, knew one another after both growing up near Bega on the NSW south coast.

‘Look, all we did was have a kiss in the bathroom. It’s been taken way out of context. It’s a big kerfuffle about nothing,’ Ms Boyle told the Daily Telegraph.

The Bulldogs are expected to come down hard on Elliott, pending the investigation from the NRL Integrity Unit into the incident.

Canterbury boss Phil Gould labelled Elliott’s conduct ‘grade-five stupidity’.

‘Every time a player like Adam Elliott who has a list of priors puts himself out there to be criticised again, we drag up all of that,’ he told Channel 9’s 100% Footy on Monday night.

‘And that affects the club, it affects the brand, the sponsors, the fans, and particularly when the club is not performing very well it leaves a sour taste in everyone’s mouth who is associated with the club.

‘It has to be dealt with swiftly, Adam understands that and we will deal with it as swiftly as we can.’

Elliott was was asked to leave the Gold Coast venue on Sunday, with the club and the NRL becoming aware of the incident on Monday.

The integrity unit are also looking at whether any biosecurity rules were breached, including if the venue is classified as a restaurant rather than a pub.

They will also determine how Elliott and other players got to the venue, given public transport, Ubers, and car pooling is off limits under the protocols.

Elliott played in the Bulldogs’ 22-16 loss to the Newcastle Knights on Saturday afternoon on the Gold Coast.

Earlier this year it emerged he was caught kissing the fiancée of former team-mate Michael Lichaa when he visited the couple’s home in Connells Point, in Sydney’s south, on February 13.

Lichaa woke up at 4.30am to find Elliott, who was also in a long-term relationship, kissing his partner Kara Childerhouse on the back deck of their home.

Texts between Elliott and Lichaa later revealed Elliott’s regret over the incident.

‘I’ve got some serious deep issues with drinking and last night I made the biggest mistake of my life I’m so sorry I’ve hurt you and hurt [Elliot’s partner] Robyn.

‘Never in a million years did I ever think I’d do this to you I can’t say how sorry I am.’

Following the incident at Lichaa’s residence, Elliott vowed to stay off alcohol – and appeared to have done so until last Sunday on the Glitter Strip.

In 2018, Elliott pleaded guilty to obscenely exposing himself in public after a wild ‘Mad Monday’ celebration at Sydney’s Harbour View Hotel.

Elliott and team-mate Asipeli Fine exposed themselves on a balcony of the hotel in full view of people doing the BridgeClimb on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Both were charged the pair with obscene exposure and the Bulldogs was handed a $320,000 fine, after the men allegedly drunkenly danced to Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.

The two later each received a two-year good behaviour bond.

After the incident with Lichaa, the Bulldogs declined to punish Elliott, announcing that he would seek help for ‘issues with alcohol’.

‘The Bulldogs have conducted their own review and have decided that Adam will undertake professional help in regard to issues with alcohol, with the Bulldogs to provide full support including a strict monitoring process,’ the club said.
