Why having Covid is worse when you’re single, says MAFS bride

Why having Covid is worse when you’re SINGLE: Unlucky-in-love Married At First Sight star on how living alone makes recovering from the virus even more unpleasant

A former Married At First Sight bride has opened up about her ‘scary’ experience of Covid-19 after catching the virus at a party the week before Christmas.

Melissa Lucarelli, who starred on the 2019 season of MAFS, revealed in a lengthy Instagram post on Wednesday her symptoms were far worse than she expected.

In addition to feeling very unwell for more than two weeks, she said her ordeal was made worse by the fact she’s single and lives alone.

Melissa said being alone meant her ‘anxiety spiralled’ at the peak of her sickness from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, calling it ‘without question the worst I’ve felt’.

Adding to her anxiety was the lack of available doctor’s appointments over the holidays and poor communication with health authorities.

She warned her followers ‘don’t underestimate Covid’ and said she wished she’d been better prepared for the virus by stocking up on food, drinks and over-the-counter medications like Panadol and throat lozenges.

She said it’s especially important to prepare if you live alone and can’t rely on a partner to drop off supplies or ‘drive you to get medical help’.

Melissa’s symptoms included night sweats, an extremely sore throat, fever, body aches, fatigue, losing her sense of smell, nausea, headaches and nasal congestion.

When her fever was at its worse she even had hallucinations.

The talent agent has got over the worst of Covid but as of Wednesday still has lingering fatigue, brain fog and no sense of smell.

Melissa most likely caught Covid while attending Believe Advertising’s 20th birthday party at The Flamingo Lounge in Potts Point on December 17.

Several other guests, including The Bachelor star Jay Lal, Big Brother alum Tilly Whitfeld and MAFS bride Gabrielle Bartlett, also tested positive.
