‘We felt it was time to share with you what’s been happening.’

Irena went on to say her first year with Locky, whom she met on last year’s season of The Bachelor, had been both ‘incredible’ and ‘heartbreaking’.

‘At the end of the day we are just a normal couple that face all of the normal challenges of a relationship and life,’ she said.

In their interview with Who on Thursday, the couple revealed they’d lost a child to miscarriage ‘a few months’ into their relationship, but chose to keep it private.

The pair admitted losing a child was a ‘devastating low’.

Irena said the miscarriage may have been linked to the stress she was going through in the aftermath of The Bachelor.

She was secretly struggling after her father, Vasco, had suffered a medical emergency and she couldn’t be with him due to Covid border closures.

She was also dealing with trolls after Locky had infamously told Bella he was falling in love with her only to pick Irena instead.

‘During our first few months together I unfortunately suffered a miscarriage,’ Irena said. ‘But Locky was my rock and having his support made me love him even more.’

Locky added: ‘We are just normal people and while we put ourselves in the spotlight, you never know what is going on in our lives that day. If you have to say something, then direct it at me, not my girl.’

'It'll happen': Locky and Irena remain hopeful of starting a family together in the near future and said they have already chosen names for the two children they plan to have

How at least one in six pregnancies ends in a miscarriage

One in six pregnancies in women who know they are pregnant become miscarriages.

But even more happen among women who don’t know they have conceived.

Miscarriage occurs when a pregnancy is lost within the first 23 weeks after conception.

The main symptoms are bleeding from the vagina, which may be accompanied by lower abdominal pain.

There are various reasons women may have a miscarriage – it is common and is not usually caused by something they have done.

If a miscarriage happens in the second trimester – between weeks 14 and 26 – it may be a sign of an underlying problem.

Often, miscarriages are isolated events and women will go on to have successful pregnancies.

The majority of miscarriages can’t be prevented, although being generally healthy will help reduce the risk.

Losing three or more pregnancies in a row – known as recurrent miscarriages – is uncommon but still affects around one in 100 women.
