A wife has received backlash online after writing out a ridiculously detailed shopping list for her husband, complete with images of the products, to ensure he doesn’t forget anything.

In a now-viral TikTok video, Melinda can be seen writing the grocery list and sticking photos of the items needed – including avocado, eggs, Chobani yoghurt and cereal.

Alongside each image she also wrote the quantity needed, price of the item and which aisle it can be found in the store.

She then shows a second sheet mapping out the floor plan of the local grocery store and detailing where to find the items to save time.

While the video was made as a joke, it sparked a debate online and has been viewed more than 8.2million times.

‘Please keep in mind this is just a joke,’ Melinda wrote and the video was flooded with more than 10,000 comments.

Some people thought the visual shopping list was a ‘great idea’ to save time and would also be ideal for children.

‘I don’t care what the comments are saying, this is actually genius for some people. It can be easy to get distracted and forget,’ one woman wrote.

‘Okay but this is a great idea for letting kids help and have more independence on grocery shopping trips,’ another said.

‘At least he wouldn’t be walking around in circles looking for stuff,’ a third added

Many said writing out the shopping list with added information and imagery would be a ‘fun thing to do’.

Others suggested making use of grocery apps available to avoid needing to write out a list with pictures.

Some TikTok users also claimed how the bar is set ‘so low’ for men who need detailed lists to complete a simple task.

‘I know it’s a joke but after seeing all those TikToks on husbands/dad you have to realise that the bar for them is so low,’ one person wrote.

Another added: ‘Whenever my dad goes he buys everything we don’t need and then we don’t eat it and he’s like why are you wasting food and we tell him we don’t eat those [things].’

After seeing the effort required to put together the detailed list, many said Melinda would save herself time going to the supermarket herself.

‘I know it’s a joke but in the time you make all that you could just go yourself,’ another added.
