Wild moment man ‘ignites jerry can full of petrol and throws it at cops’ as they attempt to arrest him

Shocking bodycam footage has captured the moment an ‘erratic man’ allegedly threw a petrol bomb at cops.

West Australian Police responded to reports of a man ‘making threats’ to members of the public on Murray Street and Victoria Square in Perth at midday on Thursday.

They arrived to find the man allegedly armed with a five-litre jerry can full of petrol, along with a makeshift wick sticking out the top, and brandishing a lighter.

When the six officers attempted to arrest the man he tried to flee before turning back around and allegedly sparked the wick before throwing the jerry can at them.

One constable, 30, suffered minor burns to his arm in the attack and was transported to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment.

Other officers quickly jumped to safety and pounced on the alleged attacker while the injured policeman was seen patting out his flames.

In the scuffle the 47-year-old man from Broome who allegedly threw the jerry can accidentally set himself alight as well before he was arrested.

‘The fuel ignited and flames engulfed the police officer and the accused,’ police said.
