Wild West London: Terrifying 30-inch ‘zombie sword’ is seized by police

  • The ‘zombie sword’ was confiscated by Lewisham officers Sunday night
  • Police in Greenwich discovered an enormous machete just a day later
  • A machete was also found tucked into a 13-year-old’s waistband in April 
  • Knife crime in London has surged in recent months according to figures

A ‘zombie sword’ and a machete were among the terrifying blades seized by police in London in just 24 hours.

Officers confiscated the first horrific three-foot-long weapon after pulling over a car in Lewisham on Sunday night. Two people were arrested.

The next day a huge machete was seized in Greenwich, south east London. Earlier this year, a similar knife was found tucked into a 14-year-old boy’s waistband.

Police in England and Wales recorded 39,598 offences involving blades in the year ending December 2017, a 22% increase compared with the previous year.  

The force tweeted: ‘Officers from the Met Police in Lewisham, SE London stopped a vehicle last night.

‘Upon searching the vehicle they found this shocking #zombie #knife. Two people have been arrested.’
