Wilfried Gnonto copies Marcus Rashford’s celebration after his stunning opener inside 55 seconds

Wilfried Gnonto added insult to injury after his opening goal against Manchester United by copying Red Devils star Marcus Rashford’s celebration in Wednesday’s thrilling 2-2 draw. 

The 19-year-old got Leeds off to an electric start on Wednesday night, opening the scoring against bitter rivals United inside 55 seconds with a stunning effort.

And to mark the shock strike against one of the Premier League’s in-form sides, Gnonto made for the corner flag where he put his finger to his temple to replicate the English star’s new celebration.

In doing so, the Italian teenager became the youngest ever player to score on the road at Old Trafford. 

The Leeds striker has managed only two goals in the English top-flight this season since a summer arrival, but took his second in superb style.

Receiving the ball out on the left flank in the first minute of the game, Gnonto darted in towards the United box before playing a neat one-two with English striker Patrick Bamford. 

He then took a couple of touches on the edge of the area into the centre before unleashing a well-placed curling effort into the bottom-left corner of David de Gea’s goal to give the managerless visitors a surprise lead.   

Gnonto initially wheeled away in celebration by shushing the United fans – perhaps as a result of the bitter rivalry in the Roses Derby.

But the 19-year-old clearly changed his mind and perhaps wanted to impose his own stamp on the game and get one over Rashford, by switching to the increasingly infamous pose. 

He is making early strikes something of a habit after his screamer against Cardiff in the FA Cup after only 26 seconds.  

And Gnonto will have thought he’d had the last laugh, as Rashford was himself not able to celebrate his own strike over an hour later. 

With United two down by 62 minutes, the England star got one back but rushed to collect the ball from Illan Meslier’s net in order to get the game going and push for the equaliser. 

That second for the hosts eventually came through Jadon Sancho, prompting Erik ten Hag to praise the English forward’s ‘confidence and belief’ after coming back from a break to focus on his mental health. 

Rashford’s is a celebration that football fans are beginning to see more and more of given the 25-year-old’s rich purple patch, with 20 goals already this season as well as eight assists.
