Winter weather lashes Sydney, with temperatures falling to 1C

Temperatures will fall to just 1C on the outskirts of Sydney this weekend with the city expected to be pelted with rain over the next few days.

Weather bureau duty forecaster Jordan Notara said that Richmond can expect to hit 1C on Sunday morning and combined with a bit of wind chill, the area could feel like temperatures in the minus figures.  

Spring Farm near Camden reported temperatures of just 0.0C – on Saturday before dipping to -3C over the last three days.

On Wednesday weather experts predicted a high chance of showers for Sydney along the coastal fringe as well as patchy morning fog in the west. 

Light winds are expected to pick up over the day from 15 to 20 km/h in the late afternoon.

Thursday is expected to be cloudy with a high chance of showers, most likely in the morning and afternoon and winds.

Sydneysiders should be weary of the impending rain predicted to fall over the next few days, with up to 15mm expected in the city and up to 10cm in the western suburbs.  

Northern NSW will freeze through the weekend with colder temperatures than the same time last year.

Sydney will drop to 6C, compared to 7.6C last year, closely behind the coldest June weekend of 5.4C, while the city’s west woke to -1.4C Monday morning.

In the city over Saturday and Sunday the rain is expected to have cleared, leaving mostly sunny skies with light winds becoming westerly 15 to 20 km/h during the day before easing off in the evening. 

A trough is causing showers and storms across northern NSW as well as southern Queensland, according to Weatherzone. 

Southwest WA can also expect rain and gusty winds following a trough and cold front.

Parts of Victoria may see up to 10mml on Friday and into the weekend. 

Melbourne will sit at a comfortable 14C throughout the days at the end of the week, with partly cloudy skies, some morning fog and a small chance of rain developing on Thursday and Friday.

Over the weekend the skies will have some cloud and a slight chance of rain is expected on Saturday evening.      

Sunnier skies can be found in northwest Queensland, with clearing showers in the northeast on Wednesday but some storms expected in southeast. 

Brisbane will be cloudy with a high chance of showers and patchy rain as well as some light winds.
