Woman brutally beaten in horrific subway attack slams woke NYC councilwoman – who backed defunding cops – for declaring ‘subway violence is a one in a million event’ even as attacks rise 43%
- NYC City Councilwoman Tiffany Cabán, a Democrat supporter of defunding cops, went to Twitter declare: ‘Subway violence is a one-in-a-million event’
- Her woke commentary enraged Elizabeth Gomes, 33, who may lose vision in her right eye after she was brutally attacked while traveling to her job last Tuesday
- To add insult to injury, Gomes is one of Cabán’s constituents
The mother of five was chased and beaten by Waheed Foster, 41, who was not only out on parole but who, police said, had beaten his grandmother to death
A Queens grand jury Thursday indicted Foster on attempted murder and assault charges
A woke NYC councilwoman who backs defunding the police has been blasted by one of her constituents who suffered a horrific subway attack after the lawmaker insisted such assaults were ‘one in a million.’
Tiffany Caban, a Democrat who represents Queens, was condemned by 33 year-old mother of five Elizabeth Gomes over a tweet which read: ‘Subway violence is a one in a million event.
‘As a believer in a violence-free NYC, I still think that’s one too many, but let’s not let fear-mongering politicians and corporate media outlets scare us into thinking we have a dangerous, scary public transit system.’
She sent the tweet after the September 20 attack on Caban, which has seen killer Waheed Foster arrested and charged with attempted murder.
He was out on parole at the time for beating his grandma to death, with his release and the attack on Gomes sparking fresh condemnation of New York’s soft-touch laws.
Caban, who represents Queen’s 22nd district, even included a link to a graph she said proved her point. But transit assaults across the city are up nine per cent so far this month compared to last year, with 182 for the 28 days ending September 25, according to NYPD statistics.
The picture is even gloomier for the rest of the year.
Official statistics show attacks have risen 43.3 per cent so far in 2022 – and currently sit at 1,670 for the year to date, compared to a far lower figure of 1,165 for the same period of 2021.
NYC Democratic councilwoman Tiffany Caban sparked fury with this tweet downplaying violence on the subway – with one recent victim condemning her words
Elizabeth Gomes, 33, a mother of five from Far Rockaway, was brutally beaten during the early morning hours of September 20 while traveling on the subway to get to work at JFK Airport
NYC City Councilwoman Tiffany Cabán took to Twitter on Monday declaring: ‘Subway violence is a one-in-a-million event’
And Gomes was unimpressed with Caban’s tweet, telling the New York Post: ‘The subway system is dangerous and for her to post something like that — it seems to me that she doesn’t ride the subway or have anyone to ride it. She doesn’t really understand what it is.
‘It’s just getting worse and worse.’
She added: ‘People are afraid. People are getting robbed. People are getting shot. People are getting molested.’
Railing against Caban’s call to defund the police, Gomes added: ‘We need protection. That’s what we’re looking for.
‘That’s what the people are looking for.’
The 33-year-old Elizabeth Gomes was brutally attacked on September 20 by Waheed Foster, 41, who had been out on parole and who had beaten his grandmother to death, according to police, the New York Post reported.
Foster repeatedly punched and kicked Gomez in the face and dragged her across the Howard Beach-JFK Airport station around 5:15 a.m. while she was traveling on the A train on her way to work at Kennedy Airport where she works as a security guard.

The NYPD first posted the news and video of the violent attack that went viral on Reddit.
Caban’s woke commentary came days later, but she said nothing about the attack or arrest of Foster.
It remains unclear if her tweet was in reference to the attack Gomes suffered, but the victim is furious anyway.
On Thursday, a Queens jury indicted Foster on attempted murder and assault charges.
Gomes, of Far Rockaway, said that since the pandemic violence on the subways has been out-of-control.
