Wolves defender Dion Sanderson will travel to London for a medical today ahead of joining QPR on loan.

Sanderson was convinced of the move after speaking to QPR boss Mark Warburton who wanted a composed centre-back to bolster his side’s push for promotion.

Indeed, fellow Championship side Sheffield United made a concerted effort to sign Sanderson too over the weekend with Paul Heckingbottom determined to land an influential defender of his own.

The Bramall Lane club made tentative approaches to sign Sanderson in the summer but this time round made it clear he would play an integral part.

However, the 22-year-old had already given his word to Warburton that he would move to Loftus Road and turned United down.

QPR are fourth in the table and face a crucial clash at home to Swansea City tonight.

Sanderson spent the first half of the season on loan at Birmingham City before being recalled by Wolves earlier this month.

They were keen to bring Sanderson back but with manager Lee Bowyer’s future uncertain and QPR pushing for promotion, Wolves considered a move to Loftus Road better at this stage for Sanderson’s progression.

Both Birmingham and QPR had also explored a deal for Fulham’s Alfie Mawson.

Meanwhile, Sanderson’s clubmate Ryan Giles, who was recalled from a loan spell at Cardiff City, is back in talks with the Welsh side. They hope to re-sign the 21-year-old wing-back this week.
