A 25-year-old woman was arrested earlier this week after she allegedly faked her own kidnapping and asked her family and friends to pay a $290 ransom before being caught when she strolled out of her own New Jersey apartment.

Casandra Oglesby, of Atlantic City, reportedly requested the ransom money using a social media app on Tuesday.

She allegedly sent messages to family and friends claiming that an attacker had abducted her and they needed to pay the $290 to have her safely returned home.

Casandra Oglesby, 25, of New Jersey was arrested for allegedly faking her own kidnapping and asking her friends to pay a $290 ransom before being found inside her own residence at the Liberty Apartments (pictured)

Authorities said the messages were sent to the friends and relatives around 1am Tuesday morning.

A short time later, investigators received a tip that Oglesby might be inside her Liberty Apartments unit located in Atlantic City, according to NJ.com.

Police then conducted surveillance of the complex and reportedly saw the woman leave her home on 2.30pm with her boyfriend, Robert Hawthorne.

Authorities then stopped the couple and questioned Oglesby over the ransom note.

Police said they later discovered that she had faked the abduction.

She was then charged with creating a false public alarm and contempt of court and released on summons.

Hawthorne was also taken into custody for a contempt of court warrant. He was released on a summons, according to BreakingAC.

The FBI and Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office assisted in the investigation.
