A Detroit woman was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly bit off an inch of a man’s tongue during a ‘consensual’ kiss.

Youlette Wedgeworth, 52, was ‘engaging in consensual kissing’ with the man, 68, in his apartment in Macomb County, Michigan, when she bit off the tip of his tongue, police said.

The victim of the unusual attack has not been named but is said to be a friend of the assailant.

Police were called to the scene to find the man bleeding from the mouth with around an inch of his tongue missing, WDIV reported.

According to officials, they were able to locate the missing piece of his tongue in the bedroom of his apartment.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment but it is unclear whether doctors were able to reattach the tip of his tongue.

Wedgeworth was arrested at the scene.

The motive behind the attack is not clear.

Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith said that in his 27-year career he had never come across a case like it.

‘I believe this is the first case of this nature in my 27 years in the Prosecutor’s Office,’ Smith said on Thursday.

Derek Miller, chief of operations for the Prosecutor’s Office, said the suspect claims the pair were not dating but the victim says they were.

Miller said the incident occurred when the two were kissing in the man’s apartment and the man put his tongue in the suspect’s mouth.

Wedgeworth allegedly told the man to not do that and then, when the duo carried on kissing, she bit down on his tongue, reported Detroit Free Press.

Michigan Department of Corrections records show Wedgeworth was convicted and served prison time for an assault with intent to do great bodily harm in Wayne County back in 1997.

Wedgeworth was arraigned in 37th District Court in Center Line Wednesday on a charge of aggravated assault for biting off her friend’s tongue.

Bail was set at $25,000 and a pretrial conference scheduled for February 19.

Wedgeworth remained in Macomb County jail Thursday.

If convicted she faces up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
