Badly injured woman, 63, survives a horror crash thanks to her border collie Pat who kept her warm for three days – and barked to get the attention of rescuers

A badly injured elderly woman, 63, has survived a horrible car crash after her border collie kept her warm for three days and barked to get the attention of hikers.
Kerry Jordan crashed her car off the eastern side of the Pahiatua Track near the New Zealand city of Palmerston North last Thursday and plunged down a 45-metre gully.
Ms Kerry suffered a broken ankle and collarbone, and a crushed chest and sternum, but managed to crawl out of her car and take shelter under a bush with her five-year-old dog, Pat.
She was rescued on Sunday after her dog barked at two passing hikers from beside the wreck and they notified emergency services about the crash.

Police, fire and emergency personnel and the Philips Search and Rescue Helicopter crew attended the scene after being alerted by the hikers.
A rescue helicopter spokesperson told the NZ Herald that the dog ran away when they arrived, but they knew Pat was in the area as Ms Kerry kept asking for him.
Ms Kerry was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital and was taken to the intensive care unit in a critical condition.

Ms Kerry’s friend, Fiona Northe, said police told her that Pat kept his owner safe and warm until rescues arrived three days after the accident.
Pat is currently in a pound but Ms Northe plans to bring him home on Monday.
Ms Northe said is very happy her friend survived the crash and Pat did everything he could to get help.
‘It’s amazing that she lived, and you hope that pneumonia doesn’t settle in, but she is pretty strong-willed,’ she told the NZ Herald.
